Sarah's Sexy and Magical Harem!

Having seen Sarah's Harem concert in NYC, I was quite excited to hear about this live CD and 2-disc live DVD release. Having purchased the CD, I was overall pleased with this new album. Sarah's singing, as always, is spectacular and beautiful, whether moving from dance-Euro-pop to her special way with "operatic" materials. It's interesting to hear the difference in her voice between a perfectly controlled and produced studio recording and a live, at-the-moment performance. Sarah does not disappoint as a live performer, visually or aurally. Some of these live renditions, "Nessun Dorma", and "It's A Beautiful Day, to name but two, are actually superior to her studio versions. There are times however, when Sarah, trying to produce a fuller "operatic" sound to her voice, resorts to "scooping" before hitting certain notes (in this concert, it occurs during parts of "La Luna" and "Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again", and also to be heard on her studio recording of "O Mio Babbino Caro", found on her "Classics" CD, as examples). This "technique" is not used too often and, when not employed at all, her singing retains it's clarity, brightness, power, and ethereally magical sound. It is a shame, as others have noted, that the "Harem" live version selection is terribly cut short, and there should have been more of the "Harem" material included. However, what is on this CD is beautifully sung, expertly produced, and acts as a perfect album for the Brightman fan or a newcomer to Sarah's incredibly magical and sexy universe. I found myself repeating "Dust In the Wind" over and over, Sarah's singing being infinitely moving. The bonus "studio" track, "Snow On the Sahara", is simply another Brightman classic. Sounding like it may have been recorded during the "Harem" album sessions, it just whets my appetite for the next (and hopefully soon!) Sarah Brightman studio album.

Excellent...

I've never really been a fan of Destiny's Child but my husband is so in love with Beyonce that I had to give her CD a try... I have to say I am very impressed with each song on the CD. My favorite is the last song {15} called Daddy where she pays tribute to her father. I thought it was simply beautiful...
Keep up the good work `B'...

Your best buy, until the rest (if) is released on cd...

This album is only an introduction to Narada Michael Walden's music. Apparently, he made the selection himself, and picked one or two tracks from each album. This is what you have to buy since the rest of his work will probably never be released on cd. And he will probably not release anything new, because he has been producing in the past fifteen years, with great success. Did you know that "I love your smile" is his, and that he discovered Shanice ? Did you know he's produced Aretha Franklin's "A rose is still a rose"?, Stevie Winwood's "Junction seven"?, Curtis Mayfield's "New world order", Patti Austin's self titled BEST album, Jarreau's "Heaven and earth",or that he played all percussion, tambourine, drums, on "Phoenix Rising" ?. Did you know he's produced "License to Kill" and "9 and 1/2 weeks" soundtracks ?
He is so busy with all this "Behind the frontline" thing that we will just have to do with what we have. I have several of his albums on tape and vinyl record, and I can hardly choose any as being the best, but probably the earlier ones (this compilation goes chronologically) are the greatest. Just listen to the creative and lyrical power on the first four tracks. That was his more "Creative" period (he had just left the Mahavishnu, and played with the rebel Jeff Beck on the album "Wired"). Also listen to the guitars of Carlos Santana and Hiram Bullock on these tracks ! Then comes the more commercial side of Narada with 6, 8, 9, 10, always nice to listen to. The close up, "so long", seems to confirm that if you don't have anything from him, you must get this outstanding cd, because there won't be another one ! Besides, it will give you an idea of why some artists sound so good on some of their albums and what this man's contribution to music has been in the past 25 years.
This is one of the gems of my collection. And yours ?

No Darkness here on this Album

"just great" would be sufficient to express this album in words. In the beginning 'Badlands' thunder into your ears , talking about the perdition of a man in his Badlands , where he hates to be and is in fact the Hell of a man's worst dreams. They make the poor man do the heavy work and the man complain. Adam and his son Caine are the topics of his second song- Cain is the first vampire,a son of Adam who slayed his brother . 'Something in the Night' is a slowly progressing ballad. 'Candy's Room' is no more than three minutes long but what a little more than 2 minutes pinner. My love affairs remind me Candy. The tempo now is subdued in 'Racing in the Streets' and then uptempoed in the 6th song, 'The Promised Land' namely. 'Factory' is one of the ,i think ,the lowkeys of this album.'Streets of Fire' precedes the 9th song and, the eponymous track ends the album. The last track is another lowkey if i may say what i believe.
