hi people!

THIS CD IS VERY CURRENT WITH TODAY'S MUSIC TRENDS AND I AGREE WITH A PREVIOUS REVIEWER, ALL THE DANCE MUSIC IS REALLY GREAT,BUT SHE WILL DEFINITELY NEVER(UNLESS SHE GETS SOME VOCAL TRAINING) WIN ANY AWARDS FOR HER VOICE. I THINK JENNIFER SHOULD STICK TO R&B,LATIN, AND DANCE TRACKS.

Who is Madonna

I've read some scathing reviews of Madonna's latest effort, "American Life." I've also read reviews calling it her greatest work to date. Madonna is an artist interesting in sharing her knowledge and wisdom with anyone who wishes to listen. In my estimation, comparing "American Life" to "Ray of Light" (1998) and "Music" (2000) is a waste of time. With each passing year (each passing day, for that matter), people discover new ideas, new dreams, new interests. Madonna is the same way. People often suggest that she is consistantly "reinventing" herself. To all those who feel that way, I'd like to ask, "Have you had the same hair color/style for your entire life? Do you wear the same clothes year after year?" What is reinvention, then? Madonna is simply growing and changing, learning more about herself. Since 1998, Madonna has gotten married and begun raising a family. It would be inconcievable for her to be writing the same kind of music that she wrote 5 years ago. The music on "American Life" goes from dance (American Life, Hollywood, I'm So Stupid, Die Another Day, Nobody Knows Me), to folky (Love Profusion, Intervention, Easy Ride), to spiritual (Nothing Fails), to confessional (Mother and Father), to introspective (X-Static Process). These same themes run throughout "Like A Prayer" which many consider her finest album to date. Why then is "American Life" not being recieved as a gem? A gem it is. Ignore the bad reviews you read and hear. Open your mind and take "American Life" in. Allow Madonna to grow and change as a human the same way you allow yourself to grow and change. "American Life" is inspiring and delightful. Listen and learn.

Incredibly underated album

Except for his rendition of a Stevie Wonder classic this is an incredible album. (No one should even TRY to sing Stevie's songs) And this is comin' from a true R&B/Soul/Jazz fan. But it's really difficult to classify this album. It's part pop, rock, soul, folk, jazz... Most importantly it's a very intorspective album. You can really hear Michael's pain and struggle with the situations he describes. Love lost, dreams met yet still unfulfilled.
Mother's Pride is tremendous. A very acoustic and poignant look at the impact of war on the family unit and psyche.
Michael sings with clarity and power. A fine effort and certainly not one that sounds like anything from his earlier days as a solo artist or as part of Wham.
The title is perfect. Don't expect to here the simplistic sound that is so much of modern pop. Have an open mind and be pleasantly surprised.

Overrated Pop Tart Pupper

Ever since she first intruded on the already plundering mainstream music scene, BS has only been popular for her looks and sex appeal. Well, she was good for eye candy for the first 3 years or so, but after that, it just got ridicoulus with her "I'm a big girl" and bratty attitude. Pop music is so shallow and unrealistic, it's not wonder it's slowly but surely fading, and so is Britney's lackluster career, more than ever. Yes, this album may be selling, but compare it to her previous sells, and then, there's the though that that little kiss with Madonna could boost the sells, maybe, 100%? Yes, we all know of the fact she cannot sing, but she can dance, but who can't do that? Plus, it's not very entertaining. I'd rather be smack down in the middle of mosh pit than watching a girl twirl around on stage while lip syncing with 20 sweaty male backup singers. Now, on to the BIG news that she co-wrote (get that kids? She actually HELPED write a song, but not quite all by herself yet, even after 4 albums) 7 of the tracks on this album! The album with her name on the cover (even though she didn't write half of the thing). But it's a well known fact pop stars can't and don't write their own music. Oh well. This whole Britney thing will be over in the next five years, but by then, it won't matter. I would have found a way to completely blur out MTV by then.
