Musique Extraordinaire: Best Swinging Cajun Band Around

This CD was my introduction to the music of Beausoleil - I was hooked from the start. Infectious rhythms, explosive energy ... right from the "get go", Cajun vocals, the fiddle and a small accordion - these guys know how to whip up a sound that keeps you hopping and stepping across the dance floor. The song "Hot Chili Mama" is the best on this CD: the lyrics are fun and the music is incomparable, without equal. The whole CD is exceptional, indisputably "one-of-a-kind". There are a few songs in English, too. The Cajun accent colors them with a charm and magical quality all their own. If you want to spice up a party with excitement and fun, this CD will do it - "garranteed". Erika Borsos (erikab93)

A coming together

Well, this for me represents the different compositional directions of Michael Hedges coming together in a much more harmonious and integrated fashion. For the "Kung Fu Gi Tar" fans, there is worthy material - if you've seen him perform Arrowhead, you realize that it stacks up there with many of his "savage myth" guitar solos. Dream Beach and Ursa Major are a wonderful exploration of chording and harmonics and the sonic properties of the acoustic guitar. The vocal pieces are much more, on average, of a pop melodic nature (in a good sense of "singability"), although there are some violent exceptions. Overall, it is another piece of Art from Hedges, technically powerful, creative, not always connecting with every person on every piece. But that does not ever seem to have been his purpose. Hedges followed his muse. Thank God.

If you like Hedges in general, you would be crazy not to get this release.
