One of the best albums.....EVER!!

Christina Aguilera's "Stripped" album introduces all of us into who she really is and what she thinks and how she feels about many things in the world and in her life. I give her a lot of credit for this album especially on tracks like "I'm Okay", "Keep On Singing My Song", "Fighter", "Beautiful", and "Cant Hold Us Down". Every song on her is done perfect and I love them all! If you do not have this album, get it immediately!! It is excellent and a huge success!
Sincerely, ~* <3 Petal <3 *~

Fantastic!!!!!

I have both the two-disc cast album and this highlights album. I love listening to this one as I drive. But I wonder if someone can explain to me why the lyrics to Music of the Night are different on this album than on the 2-disc recordings and from the libretto. You hear some additional stanzas in this recording that are not in the stage production. I actually really love the added lyrics but just not sure why they were added to this particular CD.

It's Brian...Nuff said

Naysayers and critics of Brian's lyrics and vocal quality simply do not get it. No one has ever, nor will anyone ever write like Brian Wilson. If you are looking for timely, flash-in-the-pan, top 10 fluff, you won't find it here. But Brian's musical wit and creativity has transcended the decades. Voice gone? Almost. Lyrics childish? Sometimes. But the music...Ah! the music.

Listen to the chord changes draped with lush harmonies on tracks like "Fairy Tale", "Don't Let Her Know She's An Angel" and the title track. Gorgeous and utterly unpredictable. Are they really much removed from "She Knows Me Too Well" "You Still Believe in Me" or "Til I Die"?

Furthermore, all the pain and loss of his life (child abuse, insecurity, drugs, mental illness, family deaths, manipulation by Landy and others) can be sensed in his ballads. They said no one could "talk a lyric" like Sinatra and that is true. He took the compositions of others and gave them weight and meaning...made them his own. Brian, on the other hand, shamelessly and unselfishly bares his soul in everything he writes. Even to those who have never met Brian, it is obvious that he has not a hint of artifice in his entire being. He has ever been a sweet and guileless soul and when that kind of innocence is blended with his evergreen musicality, the effect can be heartbreakingly beautiful.

He may not score a "hit" from this album, but the ability to bring joy and even tears (to those who will listen) is worth a sight more, in the long run, than a short stint alongside Britney and Ludacris (sic).

Searching for the Light

In this album, Springsteen's characters are no longer looking to escape their problems, they've giving up escape a long time ago. They are searching for answers to the siutaions they find themselves in. Optimism has been replaced by despair and cynism. "Badlands" is an angry anthem about never being statisfied with where you are in life. "Adam Raised A Cain" is about the struggles between a father and his angry son and "Factory" is about the drudergy of everyday life. Songs like "Something In The Night", "The Promised Land" and "Racing In The Streets" are about chasing a dream that one will probably never find. "Candy's Room", "Streets Of Fire" & "Prove It All Night" are about putting everything on the line for someone and having to constantly prove their devotion. The title song best sums up the album. People are looking for answers to the same questions, willing to pay the cost, but never find them. No matter how much time they search into the Darkness On The Edge Of Town, they end up in the same place.
