Let Clay sing

Great CD. I love both Clay's rendition of Bridge Over Troubled Waters and the new song This is the Night. He deserves being #1.

a brilliant piece of music - the iggy pop of techno is back

I consider myself a person of eclectic tastes, but had for years been unable to get much into electronic music, mostly because it seemed so inorganic and mechanical. I listened hard, tried what my friends reccomended to me as so-called "pop" techno, such as Prodigy or the Chemical Brothers, but said pop techno seemed to have nothing to say and no original way to say it. So I gave up on the idea for a good long time. Then, last year, I ran into a couple of old albums by the Orb, and I began to see potential in this music: To make it truly pop is to rob it of its originality and complexity (as Prodigy does in such an egregiously popular fashion). Then, a friend played me "Run On" and "Why Does My Heart Feel So Bad?" from this album and I was introduced into the world of Moby. This album alone proves techno's possibilites as something more than hollow, inorganic beatmaking. Moby shares a spiritual connection with older, more traditional singer-songwriters such as Van Morrison and Tim Buckley, and explodes musical expectations much like Morrison did on his unclassifiable "Astral Weeks." Many will still dismiss this music as empty and heartless--but they haven't listened to Moby's "Play".

Great to have her back

After the mind numbing boredom of much of Gaia, it was good to hear this alubm containing some great recordings, of which "Under My Skin" and the title track hit my CD player most. Why was "I Honstly Love You" put on the album though ? It can only lead to comparisons with the orginial from the "Long Live Love" album which is far superior and smacks of running out of ideas. Shame on the producers.

Title: American Fool

Cougar's No Fool

American Fool was John Cougar's major breakthrough. The album was buoyed by two major hits "Hurts So Good" and "Jack & Diane". The former has a heavy guitar riff that sounds like a motorcycle revving up and it S&M stylings perfectly fit the leather clad rebel rocker image he had at the time. The former has an equally memorable guitar riff, but the song is a reminiscence about days gone by and dealing with growing up. "Hurts So Good" went to number two and "Jack & Diane" became his only number one single and both songs ended up among the ten biggest of 1982. The rest of the album contains some equally pleasing tracks like "Thundering Hearts", "China Girl", "Danger List" and "Hand To Hold On To". The album also went to number one and so far is the only one of his to do so.
