This is Ambient

I always had a little problem with ambient music before this remarkable album came along. Even though those who made it thought they were shedding all constraints of traditional music, they never could completely do it (Eno included). Familiar song structures started to creep back in, or we would hear a traditional acoustic or electric instrument used in a cliched way. Or if electronics were instead used, they sounded too... well... electronic. Sure, there were exceptions (some of the tracks from Eno's Ambient 4 and Apollo come to mind), but even these did not quite achieve the sound I heard in my head whenever I read about the concepts these ambient pioneers spoke of. It took the young Richard D. James to show all those people how it's done. Nobody had ever or has ever to this day made electronics sound so ORGANIC. The sounds on this album sound more organic than anything even "real" musical instruments can do. They do not sound like something played by humans. The tracks sound like the music the earth would make if we could only hear it, or a rock, or bugs, or a strange factory, or a block of ice. How a human ever imagined these soundscapes and made them appear on a recording is a mystery to me. This is what Ambient is supposed to be--completely abstract, unrecognizable but somehow familiar, totally unconcious of self or time or "rules", made by the body and soul and heart and subconsious, without any interference from the brain.

Mixed album

The bad thing about this album is that it's split between score and songs, and the songs aren't, except the title song (which is the best of all James Bond Title songs), not something you would go out and buy on their own.
Michael Kamen is the master of using themes, and when he gets his hands on such a great theme as The James Bond Theme, it's really great. Never have the theme sounded better. As for the other music, it's "standard" action music, following the events on the screen, but very engaging, and surprisingly nice listening to (which can't be said about most action-driven music). In my view, the best James Bond Soundtrack, to one of the best James Bond Movies..

Watson at his best

If you have ever had the privilege of seeing Russell Watson in a concert live you will imagine his facial expressions and movements as only Russell can perform. He is truly one of the best of any male performers in concert.
A lot of people forget that he was a live performer long before he became popular with his Voice album. This cd has it all, classical, pop, pop rock, tender and innovative. It is Russell Watson at his best

Worlds Collide

The somber beauty of this combination is as surreal as a brisk fall early morning walk to work, in midtown traffic. Johnny's hot sweet breath is like a warm cup of coffee from your favorite deli, trusting in your hand, that caresses you through the winding rhythms of Coltrane's sensual traffic. (I'm laughing as I write this, but it's what I feel).
Johnny brings out a vulnerable side of Trane that diverts the aggression and rewards the finesse.
They were made for each other.
