Joyous, exuberant

"Oyaya" is the Yoruban word for joy, a fitting title for Ang?lique Kidjo's new album. _Oyaya!_ is a high-spirited album. It is impossible to listen to it without moving, even if I'm only dancing in my chair. The third in Ang?lique's series of albums exploring the influence of African music in the diaspora, _Oyaya!_ takes on Afro-Latin/Caribbean music. Even more than the previous 2 albums (_Oremi_ which explored American music and _Black Ivory Soul_ which explored Brazilian music), _Oyaya!_ blends the music rather than using it as an influence. I'm not sure which countries or styles of Caribbean music; her website mentions salsa, calypso, meringue, and ska. But it doesn't really matter. What matters is that it makes me smile, it makes me dance. Ang?lique's voice is as beautiful and sensual as ever, and so is the music. If you like dance-y Latin music, give this a try.

Madonna is my ray of light

RAY OF LIGHT is THE best album in my pop/rock CD collection. Although it's been almost three years since its release date, I'm amazed by its timeless themes, mystical lyrics, haunting beats, and basically the title track. RAY OF LIGHT is hands down the best dance song of all time. Her voice never sounded better and now having both MUSIC and ROL to listen 2, i dont think i can ever again revert back to MUSIC. ROL is just so beautiful from beginning to end (with the exception of Shanti/Ashtangi and Mer Girl). FRozen is the second best track off the album and tracks such as THE POWER OF GOOD BYE, SKY FITS HEAVEN,LITTLE STAR are nearly as good but simply far exceeds nething on MUSIC, with the exception of MUSIC and DONT TELL ME. Although as I've mentioned in my review months ago for MUSIC, they are opposites of one another. NOw i know which one's the better side. Had i owned ROL before MUSIc, i would have surely been dissapointed with MUSIC, but I have come to appreciate MUSIC as an album that keeps you on your toes...GO ELECTRONICA!!!

Title: It Was All a Dream

Artist: Dream

It was all a really really good dream!

I will admit right here and now: I usually don't like pop. But there's something about Dream that I just had to buy the CD. Or maybe that was because my friends needed help with their talent show, and they were doing He Loves U Not. But no, I listen to the CD now and realize that Dream is the best type of pop. Now here's the likes and dislikes of each track.1.) ....could do without...kind of pointless. Oh well.2.) He Loves U Not -- Great song, first single. Catchy, good beat. Awesome tune.
3.) In My Dreams -- Okay song, not one of my favorites.4.) This Is Me -- LOVE THIS SONG. True, catchy, just plaing great song!5.) I Don't Like Anyone -- LOVE.THIS.SONG. This is by far my favorite song. I love everything about it!6.) Interlude -- Hate the interludes.7.) Pain -- I love how in the backround it's like a broken record, saying 'All you do is bring me pain, boy you're crazy' over and over again.8.) When I Get There -- Very catchy, kinda of a more...I hate to say zesty, but...pure sound. And the lyrics are so true.9.) What We Gonna Do About Us -- Don't really like it too much.... good song still though.10.)Interlude -- I say again, I hate them11.)Mr. Telephone -- Good song, kinda of humorous..?12.)Angel Inside -- Great song, good dance beat13.) Do You Wanna Dance -- VERY DISCO SOUNDING SONG, IN THE GOOD WAY!!!14.)Miss You -- Slower song, good for a school dance 15.)Our Prayer -- A good interlude. The girls thank God for everything, very touching.16.) How Long -- Another slow song, like it very much.17.) He Loves U Not remix -- I never liked remixes. What's the point of the original if you remixed it? But it's a better dance beat.
So, good CD for pop lovers.

Title: Ladies & Gentlemen: The Best of George Michael
Label: Sony
Artist: George Michael

Terrific Buy

Nearly thirty dollars for a CD, it better be worth it. I didn't bother reading the reviews but songs like "Careless Whisper", "One More Try", "I Knew You Were Waiting for Me" and Michael's terrific vocals, the only European male artist to successfully reach #1 in the U.S. R&B charts, it had to be something special. The 2 disc set as mentioned before is divided into ballads "For the Heart" and dance music "For the Feet" my favorite being "Fast love" on the dance tracks. I had an instant liking to it the first time I heard it. A remake of Bonnie Raitt's "I Can't Make You Love Me" on the ballads disc, gives that song Michael's own personal blue-eyed soul feel. Michael became popular in the U.S. with the duo Wham! then as a solo artist with 1985's pop hit album "Faith". He is a uniquely talented musician songwriter singer of which does not come around too often. This 2 disc set highlights his accomplishments as a performer with Wham! "Careless Whisper, Freedom 90" and as a solo performer "Kissing A Fool, Outside". Michael is obviously influenced by rhythym & blues and he has one of the best if not the best, blue-eyed soul vocals in pop history. Ladies & Gentlemen The Best of George Michael, to me, is worth every cent.
