David Harness

Throughout this compilation, David Harness proceeds to capture the true essence of house music in San Francisco. You can tell from the track selection that David manages to express his character through the medium of his music. The opening track, Salsa Vibes projects images of a carnival in Rio. David takes jazz and soul influences to create a mix which exudes warmth and vitality. One of my personal favourite tracks on the compilation is Taboo Jazz which was produced by David himself alongside Charles Spencer. If you are looking for a layed back mix to relax and unwind to then it does not get any better than this.

Olivia -- Back IN MY Heart

I'm a huge Olivia fan, but promoting this album as representative of the "mellow" Olivia is not "truth in advertising". The songs on this album are barely passable, with the notable exception of the remake of "I Honestly Love You"--which in my view is a genuine achievement. As someone who feels her best material was from her "country" era, this material doesn't come close to the material she did in her original "country" period. The only song I liked was the "I Honestly Love You" remake, which I suggest be bought as a single. I do believe Olivia is still capable of replicating the quality found in her original 'country' period, but this album doesn't do it. I await the day when such material appears.

An Oasis of Sanity in an Insane World

Again John Trudell cuts to the bone with this new album. He has been my hero for decades and each time I hear his words they still have power to move me. I cry, I get angry and I am deeply moved by this man who has touched the gods and come back with a message for us. I think anyone can relate to the expressions he shares with us. Love, happiness, blues, anger and fleeting joy. As in the title track of Bone Days " The great search for truth, every meaning has a meaning, Dark and light have their reason, Live and learn are the seasons." His songs of love are exquisite. Like "Takes my breath" leave me feeling. . .
