Overlooked Byrne Gem

It is truly a shame David Byrne took such a huge slagging from the Latino music community for this fine album, He did not appropriate the many styles represented here, he merely adapted his lyric style and storytelling sense. Often reviled for ripping off a culture as was Paul Simon's "Graceland", there is truly no comparison. Every tune is a treat, and a demonstration of form: he lists them with the tunes- cumbia, merengue, samba; learn. It is a lesson in the many styles of Latin music, a voice at the center with which we can identify. As far as devotion to the music, check the credits: this is no studio session band trying to sound autentico, it is, in fact, the real thing.

Title: Dvorák, Tchaikovsky, Borodin: Quartets

Outstanding performances of popular quartets.

These three quartets are probably the most popular, and most appealing, quartets written by non-Germanic composers. The slow movements of the Tchaikovsky and Borodin quartets are exceptionally beautiful and so popular that they are often played as separate pieces in a variety of arrangements. The Emerson Quartet does full justice to them in their original settings. They also give a fine performance of Dvorak's "American" Quartet which is his most popular piece of chamber music. To have outstanding performances of all three of these justly-popular quartets available on one mid-priced CD makes this a rare treat, and a bargain as well.

The End of Her 1st Phase?

Many of Britney's fans should be sad right now for the letter she wrote and posted on her web site (if ur not sure go to Britney is "retiring" for years, since she wants to dedicate to her husband and form a family. That's the reason why she released this GREATES HITS album. But i personally think that she shouldn't have release a greatest hits album just yet. I mean, many of the songs in this album (i.e. OUTRAGEOUS, IM NOT A GIRL NOT YET A WOMAN, OVERPROTECTED) werent big hits. And others (SLAVE 4 U, ME AGAINST THE MUSIC, BOYS) didnt even top the charts. The only songs in this album that can be considered in a "real" greatest hits album are BABY ONE MORE TIME, OOPS I DID IT AGAIN, SOMETIMES, DRIVE ME CRAZY, STRONGER, LUCKY, and TOXIC. She's also missing some of her hits like DONT LET ME BE THE LAST TO KNOW AND FROM THE BOTTOM OF MY BROKEN HEART (both of those songs were much bigger hits than OUTRAGEUS, BOYS, OVERPROTECTED, ME AGAINST MUSIC) But, oh well. I think she should've released a remixes album instead.

The 1st single MY PREROGATIVE is one of my fav britney songs and i thought it would be a big hit but i dont see it topping the charts. It's a great song with very good lyrics and it is a cover of bobby brown's version.

Anyway, this is the last thing that we're gonna get from britney for a loooong time. I feel that she's gonna get back to music when she's like 27 or 28, but her return will probably be a BOOM! According to the letter that she posted in her website, when she returns "everything will be completely different." In fact, i think that's the reason that she released a GREATEST HITS album now; this probably means that this is the end of Britney Spears' first phase, when she returns, she'll come back totally different in her "second phase" to mark a continuation and probably evolution in her singing career.
