When she's good she's good, when she's bad she's really bad

BRITNEY SPEARS - IN THE ZONE1. ME AGAINST THE MUSIC(F. MADONNA): I believe that this is the perfect collaboration. The reigning female pop star today and her mentor, the reigning female pop star for the last two decades. This song is so catchy you can't help but sing along. 5/52. (I GOT THAT)BOOM BOOM(F. YING YANG TWINS): This song might have been better had she not worked with The Ying Yang Twins. Their hollering makes the song unpleasant to listen to. Not to mention the ridiculous title of the song. The only parts of this song that are enjoyable are where Britney is singing solo, sans backup singers. Hopefully Britney doesn't work with these guys again! 2/53. SHOWDOWN: While this song has a catchy beat it doesn't seem well structured. The vocals are not the strongest but it would make an excellent single for her in the future I think. 3/54. BREATHE ON ME: I think this track is Excellent. I love it. If Britney releases this song as a single I can easily see her getting a Grammy nod for Best Dance Recording. This is the best song on the record in my opinion. The only thing wrong here is when she sings "monogomy is the way to go" which would be like Madonna singing that same line her song "Erotica".5/55. EARLY MORNING: This is a good party song....has enough appeal to the club fans and long time fans. 4/56. TOXIC: This song has quite an annoying intro but it does surprisingly get better as it progresses. Awesome chorus. I've heard this will be the second release off this record. 4/57. OUTRAGEOUS: Britney! Stay away from R. Kelly. This song is not "outrageous". It is absolutely "horrendous" This is what I meant when I said "when she's bad, she's really bad". This song has stupid lyrics, and I can honestly say I was tempted to fast forward through this song. Hopefully she's stay away from Mr. Kelly in the future for various reasons. 0/58. TOUCH OF MY HAND: Finally something worth talking about on this record! Britney is telling some truth. Sort of I think. Does she really expect us to believe that she's just discovering the touch of her hand at age 22? That aside, this song has an awesome beat, sound and production. And has excellent vocals. It's good to hear Britney without her backup singers. 4/59. THE HOOK UP: Bad, Bad, Bad, Really Bad! Since when is Britney a reggae artist? That's what she sounds like she's trying to be on this track. CRAP! 0/510. SHADOW: Good vocals, excellent ballad, catchy, she should have done more of these types of songs. They really work for her. 4/511. BRAVE NEW GIRL: Parts of this song actually remind me of Lucious Jacksons' "Naked Eye" I find this song takes us back to the sound found on her debut record. Good song. 4/512. EVERYTIME: This song is was made for Britney. If she released more ballads I believe that she would do better. This song will be huge! That is if she releases it. It's absolutely spine tingling. Maybe because we the public know that it's truth. Maybe that's the key to Britney staying relevant. BE REAL. This song certainly is. 5/513. ME AGAINST THE MUSIC(F. MADONNA)(RISHI RICH'S DESI KULCHA REMIX): The song starts off and you can hear that annoying citar that the remixers have throughout the entire song. Then you hear clips of Brit singing. Really though it sounds like she's belching. Past this intro though, it's a dancier version of the song and is really well remixed. Not as good as the original but no completely offensive. 4/5

Title: To Record Only Water for Ten Days
Label: Warner Brothers
Artist: John Frusciante
Rating: 4/5
Customer rating - 4 out of 5
Unfairly criticized

I actually give this 4.5, but don't know how to get the half to show. To Record Only Water was unfairly bombed by critics. Everything I read talked about how Frusciante's voice was so terrible, but never said anything about his magnificent guitar work. Besides that, Frusciante's voice is not that bad. It's not the best, mind you, but neither is Bob Dylan's, and he is still one of the greatest folk/rock musicians of all time. While Frusciante is not quite Bob Dylan in his lyrics, he is still creative and insightful. Plus, he is one of the most subtley innovative guitar players working today. This album is highly enjoyable if you are into newer singer/songwriter people like David Gray. There is a touch of electronica with a whole lot of fuzzy guitar, with Frusciante singing through some kind of distortion/digital delay machine. The whole feel of the album is heavy, but simple at the same time. I highly suggest the purchase of this album.

Title: It Had to Be You... The Great American Songbook

not the usual Rod Stewart

Well, it's about time Rod! I don't why you didn't record this type of album sooner! Where you afraid or embarrassed to do it? It sure didn't hurt Sting's career when he crooned some Gershwin and Cole Porter tunes... And you hired the best music producer (living) for the job, Mr. Phil Ramone.
My favorites are "These Foolish Things", "I'll Be Seeing You", and "That's All". I have a wide variety of recording artists (some famous and not-yet-famous)who have recorded classics such as these. Artists like Linda Eder, Sting, K.D. Lang, and local West Coast club favorites like Michael Poss, Andrea Marcovicci and Lee Lessack are among my top Traditional Pop/Cabaret singers. Rod Stewart's new CD will definatley be inserted in this collection, too! Good Job, Rod! Great ears for arranging all of them, Phil!
