Horribly average

Although its better than most of the stuff today its Bowie's worst effort out of his best period. I own everything from Space Oddity to Scary Monsters except Young Americans. I can't stomach it. It's actually pretty funny that on the timeline of releases its right next to his best: Station to Station

A New Voice

It's simply an amazingly, powerful album. Every song is special. Josh has a special gift, this is his first landmark.

Title: Motown

Michael McDonald's Motown CD is magnificent. I have never owned any of his music until now -- I received this CD as a gift. But I have played it 3 times within the past couple days. The arrangements of these classic songs are fresh and up to date while staying true to their original spirit. I really marvelled at Michael's voice and delivery. It's huskier now than I remember it being before and he sounds better than ever. He also interprets and phrases things in churchy and soulful ways that I don't ever recall hearing on his top 40 hits ...he even squalls a few times! Maybe I just didn't notice it then, but I notice it big-time on this set. I always knew Michael could sing, but on the strength of this one album I have a whole new respect for the talent of this man. Talk about giving depth to lyrics. "All Is Fair In Love" almost becomes a sermon when Michael sings it; you can tell he has lived it. I would highly recommend adding this to your collection, especially if you like Motown's classics of the 60's and 70's. It's worth it! This CD is so soulful that I'd be willing to wager that Aretha gives her seal of approval to it...shoot, she may even own a copy! :-)

Slip sliding away

The more ambient tracks on this album seem to work for me. The first couple tracks seem to meander. If you like this stuff, search out some of Ry Cooder's soundtrack work, specifically the Johnny Handsome ST. As well some of the work of Michael Brook.
