Title: Gone to Earth
Label: Virgin Records
Artist: David Sylvian
Rating: 5/5
Customer rating - 5 out of 5

It's challenging to speak about this intimate, serenely inspired work of halcyon beauty. I found this album during an important period of my life in what seems a lifetime ago. Having recently begun to listen to the work of DS again in anticipation of his recent tour, the music on this disc is like a meditational homecoming to me. From the luminous artwork to the expansive, ethreal (musical) textures, there's a tangible, impressionistic quality to Gone to Earth that defies appropriate description. Deeply personal and introspective, these aural paintings (more than songs) evoke the long summer evenings of my midwestern youth (a million youths), a companion to dreaming in the soft light and languid shadows of yesterday and some sort of vague, eternal beauty. A prayer.

Title: Bridge Over Troubled Water/This Is The Night
Label: RCA
Artist: Clay Aiken

The Skinny White Boy CAN Sing!

All I can say is...that VOICE! This is Clay at his best (minus the somewhat overbearing accompaniment/background vocals on Bridge Over Troubled Water), and you will miss out if you don't get a copy of this.
His voice truly shines on both songs. He takes BOTW and makes it his own, and he sings his heart out on This is the Night. Both songs are ones you will listen to over and anticipation of his full-length CD release.
Keep an eye on Clay Aiken. He's a shining star who is just beginning to make his mark on the music industry.

Title: American Life/Die Another Day
Label: Warner Brothers
Artist: Madonna
Rating: 3/5

Calderone mix is good

The first single from Madonna's upcoming American Life album may be causing controversy due to the state of the world right now, however, the song is yet another example of how Madonna continues to evolve and grow as an artist. It is no wonder she has continued to remain one of the most influential and popular musicians over the past 20 years. American Life may take a few listens to digest, not as commercially friendly as "Music" or "Frozen", but once it takes hold of you it sucks you in. It is equal parts electronic and acoustic. Madonna again works with Mirwais who co-wrote and produced most of 2000's Music album. This time the lead single is more influenced by 80's synth sounds. The song has a thumping electric bass line that sounds like a heavier version of early 80's dance and also sounds influenced by the new style in dance music called "electro-clash." Madonna's lyrics are very honest and autobiographical as she speaks from her own experiences how money and fame are not enough to make her happy. Her voice, although at times altered, sounds very strong on this track especially during the chorus when she is singing backed by only the acoustic guitar. In my opinion, this song is vocally and lyrically better than her 2000 hit single "Music". As a bonus there is an extended remix of her 2002 hit single "Die Another Day" by Victor Calderone and Mac Quayle that is better than the mixes that originally appeared on the maxi-single. If you are a Madonna fan or a fan of dance/electronic music, this single is a good choice.

The CD doesn't have all the best songs of the movie.

Well dispite what the other main review might say this movie and/or soundtrack is not ridiculous. Honestly at the time of its release it was in fact a bomb but it in fact is an amazing movie. I saw this movie for the first time at a young age and I have adored it ever since. I find it to be highly underestimated but I also understand that it takes an intelligent person to find and pinpoint the greatness factor of this film. Actually I would like to get a hold of the the guy who rated it badly and called it ridiculous and show him a thing or two, he must be a typical, uncultured moron. Olivia looks fabulous in this movie and yes there are cheesy scenes but that is not what makes it so great. Also all of the amazing music, dance and style. This movie is full of every dance type and music type imaginable and also is full of life and it is one of those movies that just makes you feel great.Anyone who can't appriciate this movie at least theatrically speaking is just a fat lazy computer nerd that likes to see his name on a review on because makes him feel better about the fact that he sucks...and by the way the little girl who watched this movie and was dazzled by it growing up is now a sophisticated actress whom you have probably seen in a musical or a movie. So are you going to take his word or mine. :)
