Three for the price of one!

It can be fun to hear different versions of the same piece -- but not simultaneously. On this album, the orchestra, Mr. Terfel, and Ms. Fleming each perform their own versions of each song. Terfel, in the apparent belief that Broadway voices aren't well-trained, allows himself to forget everything he knows about proper breath control; Fleming sings as if everything were written by Handel (although she does attempt an embarassing impersonation of the Gospel style on the last track -- Mahalia Jackson by way of the American Boychoir); finally, the orchestra plays mellow, PBS-fundrasing drive arrangements.
If any of these miscegenations were dropped into an actual production of the shows, the shows never would have become hits. This CD is risible, and it is amazing that so many talented (and well-paid!) people can produce such dreck.
But I'm sure it will sell well ....

Just So You People Actually Notice

My six-year-old daughter recieved this CD for her birthday. She loved the movie, which I took her to see, but she wasn't really into the music. But when I heard the catchy music on this CD, it instantly became one of my favorites. I am a 25 year old woman, and I like this CD! It must be good!

1)Breakaway--(Kelly Clarkson)5/5
This is my favorite song on this CD. It's not too poppy, but it is far from hardcore. With the amazing lyrics and Kelly's voice, you can easily sing along to this song.

2)I Decide--(Lindsay Lohan)3/5
I was surprised to see that Lindsay Lohan sang this song. It just isn't really her song. It isn't very catchy, but it isn't the worst song I've heard, either.

3)This Is My Time(Raven)--4/5
This is one of my favorites on the CD. The song starts out sort of slow, but then it gets faster and more upbeat. Raven has a great voice, and she sings the song well.

4)I Always Get What I Want(Avril Lavigne)--5/5
I've always been an Avril fan. This song is really fast and upbeat, but a little hardcore. It's more of a pop-rock song, but it's one of the best songs on the album.

5)Trouble(Pink)--4.5/5
I liked this song. Wasn't my all time favorite, but I think it was a lot better than "I Decide."

6)Because You Live(Jesse McCartney)--1.5/5
This is the worst song on this CD. It was horrible! Typical bubblegum boy pop. When I heard this song, I cringed. What do all these tweens see in this boy?

7)Love Me Tender(Norah Jones and Adam Levy)--2.5/5
I didn't like this song, either. Too slow. It made me sleepy.

8)Fun In The Sun(Steve Harwell)--3.2/5
An upbeat, feel good song. Not the best, but pretty good overall.

9)Let's Bounce(Christy Carlson Romano)4/5
Upbeat, poppy song. Christy has a good voice, and she did a good job with the song. I sang along with it!

10)Dance, Dance, Dance(Wilson Phillips)3.5/5
Not the best, but pretty good.

11)Fools(Rachel Stevens)-2/5
This was way to slow. I really didn't enjoy it, and Rachel doesn't have the best voice.

12)A Love That Will Last(Renee Olstead)-3/5
Not the best, but it wasn't too bad.

13)Your Crowning Glory (Julie Andrews & Raven)-4/5
This was a cute song. Interesting pairing!

14)Miracles Happen(Jonny Blue)-4.1/5
I loved the orginal, but it was really disappointed that the whole song was in Japenese.

Overall, I was very pleased with the CD. If you like teen pop and pop-rock, then you'll enjoy this CD.
