Another Musical Triumph From Bowie!

This album, in alot of ways, feels almost like a Volume 2 to last year's "Heathen"... and being as how that was a great album, this one is two. Crisp and fresh sounding, much of "Heathen"'s sadness is replaced here with a new hope and outlook. The very best track is Bowie's tribute to George Harrison, "Try Some Buy Some". One of Harrison's lesser known tracks, Bowie's version is breathtaking, and is enough in itself to make this album worth having. Rock on David!

What do you expect?

Crossover always has its downfalls. I am hesitant to even call this a crossover as there is very little actual "opera" in it. A pop song in Italian, or an arrangement of Beethoven's 7th Symphony for voices and rock drums is not opera or classical music.

As soon as you start hearing backing tracks, you know you're in for something stale. And most of the CD is quite stale. Many of you have picked up on that already, the lack of "soul". The orchestrations are weak and the mixing is poorly done. The singers are not of a professional caliber at all. They sound like normal college voice students, people I go to school with. Poor diction, poor intonation, ensemble problems, rhythm problems.

Again...what do you expect? Of course these guys are somewhat talented, but they're young and inexperienced. And to say this is the greatest album, or even just a great album... shame on you.

WOW

Her Bach recording was a failure - it did not do on the sales chart and it was a downward in direction musically speaking. Well, you know what? THis is about the best slavic/gypsie recording you can get. Her detail work is just great - it's not overdone but exactly where you'd want them to be if you were listeing out in the audience. The girl deserves so much credit for this wonderful piece of recording. The weak side is that Piano can't support too well her extreme playing of slavism, but her violin-playing takes it up notches, so it sounds good. Get this recording - don't be fooled by the cover, because that's not the content of this CD.

gentle on my mind

I love early Hartford, so relaxing and smooth. Almost sounds like Johnny Cash. This is a great disc - any big Hartford fan should pick it up!
