Title: Born Free: Original Motion Picture Score (2000 Re-recording of 1966 Film)
Label: Varese Records
Artist: John Barry, Royal Scottish National Orchestra

NOT the original recording, and disappointingly dull.

This is not the original soundtrack recording from the movie Born Free. It is a new recording of John Barry's music, by Frederic Talgorn conducting the Royal Scottish National Orchestra. Unfortunately, none of the exhuberance of the original soundtrack performances make it into Mr. Talgorn's conducting. In the main title, the drums are subdued and the final statement of the main motif (BORN FREE!) just sort of lolls out the speakers, nothing like the stirring rendition in the movie. "Elsa at Play" sounds more like sleepy elephants at play. And "Reunion/Born Free (end title) utterly failed to bring tears to my eyes--there is no tension, no resolution, it's just another lazy afternoon in the sun. I really can't imagine ever playing this CD again.

John Secada has taught buns

John Secada has the greatest voice. I listen to this CD every day before I go to my flamenco dance class. He really pumps me up for the physical nature of the flamenco dance. This way I can just imagine that I'm dancing with Jon Secada during my class. His songs, and images of his gorgeous body remain with me throughout the day. I love you Jon baby!

Seal?s new Style

I am used to hearing Seal belt out more powerful numbers such as "Kiss from a Rose" so when I first heard that he was taking a new approach on Seal IV I said this isn't going to work. I personally checked the CD out and his new approach to his art is cool. There is something on this album for everyone. I personally like the song "Let Me Roll" it's got a beat that you can nod your head to. The song "Waiting for You" also has a very soulful approach that later turns into rock. He has a song that you play while driving the speed limit and under on the highway called "My Vision". When you want to mellow out then you put on the track titled "Touch" it's smooth and mellow. Seal also manages to leave one thinking with his more conscious approach on the track called "Get it together" which serves as one of the singles off of the CD where he talks about getting over the little things and moving on with life in a positive manner. Open your mind and you'll enjoy this CD I know I did. To check out the CD visit and click on the Seal IV link under "What we like" to listen to this new CD.

The Bassoon Brothers- Bassoon Ambassadors to the World!

Wanted- The Bassoon Brothers is hands down our entire family's favorite CD. (Our second favorite is Captured- The Bassoon Brothers.) After hearing this CD we are all bassoon enthusiasts and Bassoon Bros. devoted fans. My 11 year old, inspired by the Bassoon Brothers, is now a bassoonist with a youth symphony orchestra. The Bassoon Brothers' level of skill and musicianship is the highest, their selections are witty, their arrangements are wonderful, and the CD is a gem! The "Brothers" raise up their bassoons celebrating the instrument's solo and small ensemble capabilities, demonstrating its elegant, eloquent, and expressive voice. Great listening! Great entertainment!
