Title: Live In New York City
Label: Sony
Artist: Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band
Rating: 3/5
Customer rating - 3 out of 5

Remember when fans used to wonder if Bruce would EVER put out an album of live material?? It seems like that is all he releases these days, and at least half of the songs featured here are available in live form on his previous concert collections. Strangely, despite improvements in live recording, this album sounds worse than his earlier LIVE 75-85 and MTV PLUGGED efforts. Hopefully his reunion with the E-Streeters will produce something more substantial in the studio.

Title: Michael & George (Feinstein Sings Gershwin)
Label: Concord Records
Artist: Michael Feinstein

If you don't love it at first, keeping playing it.

For those of us who've collected all of Feinstein's CDs, this one's a surprise: not quite the sound and style we've come to expect. I'd been warned in advance that it was awful, so expected the worst. But when I listened the first time, I thought it wasn't all that bad. And by the third or fourth time through, I realized that I was loving it. This is now one of the most-frequently played Feinstein CDs in my collection. It also has a nice whimsical touch: Feinstein singing, accompanied by George Gershwin on the piano (thanks to a piano roll). Because I love all the songs on this CD, I won't bother citing a favorite. They're all wonderful.

Extreme Delight

Wow! As a new admirer of Michael's, (within the last 7 years or so) I must admit that I've been missing out on a lot. Abandon Garden just happens to be my favorite album of his, as well as one of my " All Time 10 Best Albums". I remember hearing some of his works when I was younger and thinking he was the voice behind "Kermit the Frog". I had a chance to see him in concert once (Capital Jazz Fest, Coulmbia, MD July'98) and was absolutely enthralled. I have the complete collection of his works and I often play it for friends and co-workers. Easily, Abandoned Garden is the favorite amongst them. Even my non-Jazz enthusiast friends seem to love the album. My favorite song is "A Fools Errand". Now haven't we all played that role before?
