Title: Skunkworks
Label: Castle Us
Artist: Bruce Dickinson
Rating: 4/5
Customer rating - 4 out of 5

You're here because you're a Maiden fan and a Dickenson fan. You also probably already own Chemical Wedding and Accident at Birth - but you're hedging on Skunkworks, arn't you. Let me tell you, this CD really creeps up on you...better and better with each listen. These songs are nothing like he's ever done so there is an element of freshness throughout the whole CD. Why not 5 stars? Well, Chemical Wedding takes that prize - otherwise this would rank right up there. So, just do what you wanted to do and that's get this and check it out for yourself...Up the Irons!

heard it on NPR

Heard the song Babylon on Public Radio and immediately went to to find out who this guy was. Ordered the cd and am delighted with it. Intelligent, emotional lyrics, wonderful melodies and a haunting voice. Have shared it with others. Hope it does well here in the States. Heard he will be on Letterman soon and that should help his US exposure.

Title: In The Zone
Label: Jive
Artist: Britney Spears
Rating: 1/5
Customer rating - 1 out of 5

I have already thickened my skin for the onslaught of negative responses which I will receive for this review. That being said, I am so disappointed with this recording.
Britney Spears is a wonderfully marketed but artistically bankrupt performer. She is a decent dancer, a marginal singer, and horrendous writer. Yes, it's wonderful that she recruited Madonna for backing vocals on the leading single. Spears has told everyone who would listen that Madonna is her idol. Good choice, honey; reach for the stars. The difference between the two is that Madonna always had the artistry to back her statements and sauciness up; Spears does not. Having R. Kelly produce anything that will be marketed toward prepubescent children and teenagers is reprehensible and revolting.
Spears claims that she wishes people would allow her to grow up. Perhaps she'd be more successful in that wish if she would simply produce more mature material. There's no point in reviewing the individual songs; you've heard them all before, and in some cases with the original lyrics intact! This album is the fourth in a continually unoriginal, unprovocative, and immature vein. Her songs not only on this album but on her previous ones all stand out as unremarkable and indistinguishable.
Spears can reinvent her image until she metamorphasizes into a different gender, but if she doesn't reinvent her sound, it's a lost cause. She doesn't have the vocal capabilities of Christina Aguilera and Jessica Simpson, or the vulnerability and sweetness of Mandy Moore. While her contemporaries have grown into more mature music and improved vocals, Spears still stands in the middle of the spectrum, completely bland and boring.
