Dan the Automator, Hip Hop's Paul McCartney

All it had was a sticker on the cover that said "Dan the Automator" and I bought it. Luckily I didn't wait to hear it from some other source first because when I got home and listened to it, it blew me away. The songs are so driven by outrageously infectious beats and orchestral harmonies, it's ridiculous. Del is no Kool Keith, but that's a good thing because I think Keith is TOO much into dissing other rappers and the whole lifestyle that he's kind of lost his originality. Whereas Del, Dan, and Kid Koala, keep on track in pushing hip hop to the outer edges. This album is tinged with space references and weird rhymes but as a whole, I think this album does more for hip hop and music in general than any other album I've listened to recently. Definitely in the realm of De La Soul and the Jungle Brothers, but much much more musically challenging. These are songs and melodies you won't hear for a long time. On this album, Dan the Automator proves to the world that he is hip hop's equivalent of Paul McCartney.

Michael Still Has It..........PURE BLUE EYED SOUL

I'm an African American and the phrase "Blue Eyed Soul" was used back in the day to discribe White artists who could sing a song and make it sound like it was coming from his/her soul...or in other words..."sounding like a Soul Brother or Sister!!Well....Michael McDonald has always had that "gift", even when he was with the Doobie Brothers. Michael is not just "singing" on his MOTOWN CD...Michael is SANGING!!Any fan of the Motown era will appreciate this CD. I think this is is a wonderful tribute, by a talented, and gifted artist!!!To the writer who indicated the Motown sound was "tired", obviously that person doesn't have an ear for good PURE music! The Motown Sound..will never die!!!!

Stars stripes and nonsense

Ok..So Wilco and Tori Amos and even Filter have put out POST 9-11/ american affairs albums. Now, Madonna too has something to say...Or does she? I can't help but think of madonna as a 40 year old (or however old she is) Brat. Just another one of the extremely rich celebrities who think they have an exclusive take on politics. "Nobody knows me" may be one of the best songs on the album...but to me, it is almost as self absorbed and silly as "Lucky" from britney spears. Yeah, yeah...I know what they are trying to say. "I'm rich and fabulous...but i get sad too...boohoo". I just find a lot of apathy in songs that try to seem intimate or revealing. "Hollywood" is another song that I can almost stand...but once again, I feel that she is trying to whine about a position of her own choosing. How can any other person in Hollywood be a bigger reptile than madonna? I guess SHE would know...I find her take on American amusing...I think madonna is as genuine as her british accent.
