Really good songs overshadowed by themes

.Oh it is sooo good to hear Springsteen back, singing songs he cares about. When all the artifices of clever chords melt away, popular music has to boil down to sincerity, and this CD has tons of it. The melodies and arrangements are more interesting than I've heard from him in a LONG time - - if he weren't such an established artist you might refer to this as a "breakout" album. It's that distinctive.
The PROBLEM (and I'm saying this as a New Yorker) is the Sep 11 thing. It doesn't need to be so strong in a record. It's not that I'm offended, or that it's because I lost friends - - it's just that the theme is SO unrelenting. It needs a break. Imagine a CD of oh you broke my heart and several variations. You'd get bored of that.
Mr Boss, I want to send you hugs, but there's a lot more than Sep 11 going on.

Hard to rate continued greatness

I loved 2 Against Nature. I was totally addicted to it after a couple of listenings and I think it's one of their best albums ever. I can't say I felt the same about this one. If 2 Against Nature can be said to be a ( very delayed )follow up to Aja and Gaucho then EMG is a follow up to what .. Pretzel Logic?
What I mean by that is that they seemed to have gone stylistically backwards in time, to a more rock based feel. The chord changes just aren't as interesting and the arrangements less involved. They also broke their habit of using other guitarists than Becker for solos and "lead". Sorry, but I miss the more jazz oriented guit players. The emphasis on Beckers more blues-rock approach adds to the retro effect.
The recording quality is of course absolutely top notch.
Just not my taste. I hope next time they go back to being more "sophisticated" musically. They're really good at that!

John Legend = OVERRATED

I also saw John Legend open up for Alicia Keys on tour and he was fantastic. He has such a great voice. This CD is a classic. He's definitely the best male out there singing R&B. "Get Lifted" is quite impressive. John has his own style and sound. I would highly recommend getting this album.

Bruce Springsteen: No musical or vocal talent!

It's bad enough that this guy literally raped the 911 victims and turned their horror into profit for his cd "The Rising." Then, he made a song insulting police officers. All of this would be ok if he had any musical or vocal talent. The lyrics to most of his songs are clich?s and he sings like he is on crack. His stadium shows, despite the hype, were NOT sellouts (Fox News reported that several thousand tickets had to be given away to many of his shows). Anybody who listens to this guy's music is a true zombie.
