Title: The Phantom of the Opera (Original 1986 London Cast)
Label: Decca U.S.
Rating: 5/5

Phantom is PHANtastic

This is by far the best musical out there, not saying that there aren't other captivating, amazing shows (Les Mis, Into the Woods, etc.), but this tops them in a way that is very hard to describe. This musical has so much wonder and is so beautiful in so many ways, that it is the best musical of these times. I have only seen the show twice, but the entire show is so memorable, it will never be forgotten . . . certainly not by me. This show is the best, at least in my mind, and is nessecary for every cd collection.

Title: Brilliant Trees & Words With the Shaman
Label: Caroline
Artist: David Sylvian

Nothing special

First off, I am a big fan of David Sylvian's fluid vocals, so to me this album is like a billion wonderful Christmas presents. Secondly, I'm a huge jazz-funk fan, and the jazz-funk of "Red Guitar" *ALONE* was worth the cost of the whole CD in my opinion. Third, this is *THE* DS album to buy if you want the same sort of relaxing, soothing, "drown-out-the-real-world" sort of feeling you would get from an album like "Gentlemen Take Polaroids". Fourth, title track...'nuff said. Fifth, it's a special bonus treat to have "Words With the Shaman" on this CD, making it two albums in one. David Sylvian proved his worth as a great solo artist with this brilliant debut album. BRAVO!

Title: Whitney Houston - The Greatest Hits
Label: Arista
Artist: Whitney Houston
Rating: 5/5

I Will Always Love the Greatest Voice of All

There are 2 reasons why one buys a Whitney Houston CD: first, to be awed by her voice. Second, because of her excellent song selections. These are the two reasons why I award this CD a five star!
First, if you want to hear real singing, you should listen to "Run to You." This song is the epitome of what great singing is all about. Here Whitney gives her all and her voice reaches all the high notes perfectly. Her 1991 performance of "Star Spangled Banner" is still the best version I have had ever heard. She sings it with so much conviction that when the single was released it sold like hot cakes.
Just to silence the critiques who have thought Whitney has lost it: her new duet with Deborah Cox "Same Script, Different Cast" proves them all wrong. This midtempo ballad tells a story of two women conversing about the same man. The performance of this duet is impeecable, Whitney's and Deborah's voices complements each other so well that when they reach the crescendo of the song, you can't help but applaud these two divas for their God-given vocals!
Second, Whitney has an excellent ear for good songs. Who would forget the insight "Exhale" or the painful "Why Does It Hurt So Bad" or the romantic "I Believe in You and Me" or the inspirational "One Moment in Time?" The new songs on this CD set are also well chosen. Besides the duet with Cix (as mentioned above), "Fine" is a contemporary R&B number that is soulful and extremely catchy. Likewise, the duet with Enrique, "Could I Have This Kiss Forever" is a gem. It is a midtempo ballad written by the famed Diane Warren, where we find Whitney and Enrique skillfully breezing their way through this romantic bliss.
But there's more: one of the reasons why many love Whitney is that she is versatile. She likes to improvise whenever she gets a chance. The second CD with the different remixes of her hits is a testimony of how verstalie her songs are. For instance who would ever thought "Greatest Love of All" could become a dance anthem? In fact, the remixes work so well that some of her older hits are revitalized and given new interpretations and vitality.
These two CDs are testimonies of a diva who has the greatest voice of all. But it also shows us why Whitney is still a diva with chart topping hits all these years.

Outstanding (in the eyes of 15 year old jazz fanatic)

In a world of overpriced and mediocre music, Best of Miles Davis and John Coltrane is a shining light. Although I recommend the full set titled Miles Davis and John Coltrane: The Complete Columbia Recordings, a less expensive but still extroadinary album can be found in this product. This collection features the most outstanding Trane solo on Someday My Prince Will Come, exceptional lyricism on Round Midnight and blazingly fast excitement on tracks such the rare alternate take of Sraight, No Chaser, a true American anthem. Keep yourself groovin' on the way to work with Best of Miles and John
