John Hiatt Sings For Adults

I have listened to this album at least 500 times since it was released, and I have never tired of it. John Hiatt's warmth, humanity and sense of humor shine in every track on this album. A John Hiatt record captivates on many levels. You can appreciate his lyrics, delivered with warmth and wit. You can appreciate the music, not a misplaced note, everything fits perfectly and works! You can appreciate the production and the sound. Of all his albums, and I have and listen to all of them, Bring the Family is my favorite. If you still spin vinyl, and your stereo is good enough, find the Mobile Fidelity version on LP. It sounds WAY better than the CD.

A remarkable acheivement - Marraige of Jazz and Mahler

This extraordinary performance will not be for everyone! Lovers of Mahler and/or avant-garde Jazz with open minds will be pleasantly astounded, however. Composed as the soundtrack for a new, otherwise silent film on the life of the great composer, this project emphasizes not only the emotional depths of his death-oriented songs, but also his Jewishness in a most startling, yet beautiful manner. As odd as this hybrid might sound...it works! Elements of Hip-Hop, Klezmer, "Lounge," Country/Western, and raw experimentalism marry happily. One of the most interesting and original recordings of 1998. Each listening has left me deeply moved and intellectually thrilled. Uri Caine took a big risk...and pulled it off perfectly.

Title: Emotions

Artist: Mariah Carey

Unrestrained Mariah at her best

Probably the best thing about this album is Carey displaying her otherworldly vocal abilities in full shape and force. No wonder when you listen to the astounding high notes in "Emotions" or the soaring "Make it happen" that they are enough proof of Mariah's amazing handling of vocalization. Although some of the lyrics are quite unoriginal, Carey's overdose of emotion easily skips that misstep successfully. Other songs like the bitter "And you don't remember", the sad and emotional "Can't let go" and the poignant "So blessed" round out an album in which every song seem to be authored in a way to showcase rollercoasters of heart and soul. Even if this is not Mariah Carey's finest album musically, it is definitely her flashiest in performance.
