Finally, the RETURN

I've been waiting for this album since seeing them on their last tour about 2 years ago. Been a fan since their inception. No disappointments in this collection of typical Dan music. Any REAL Steely Dan fan will jump for joy. I hope this is just the restart of things to come. Looking forward to seeing them live in July.

A Fine and Subtle Album

I don't quite know what "scared" the reviewer below, but this is a fine album by Abercrombie and Vince Mendoza, an ambitious NY musician who managed to write the orchestral scores for Joni Mitchell's new album and *stll* not get his named mentioned in the thousands of articles written on the album and the tour. Here he sticks to synthesizers, and because Abercrombie is also often playing synths, they combine to form One Mind, especially on the last three songs, with are quiet, ruminative, delicate meditations, perfect for a rainy day. If you loved the title track of Abercrombie's "Timeless," you should pick this up.

its a different album

Unlike most of these reviewers I don't belong to the throngs of John Mayer worshipers, however I thought some of the tunes off NRFS were interesting and that he showed an ability to instill a little more substance into his music than the average pop crooner. On this outing it definitely comes off as alot more paint by numbers and the earnest breathy vocal sound wears a little thin by the end of the CD.Definitely a talented guy, would just like to hear just a few drops of pathos to mix in with all of that warm milk.

An Okay CD...just with less over played songs....

I always buy the Now CD's and usually can stand them only for a little while because the songs are played out on the radio. And some songs are older than they should be for the CD. But here is my personal review of the songs on this CD.

1. D12- My Band is an okay song. It has a good beat. But the song is sort of conceded. And the lyrics are just okay. I would say it is about a 7/10 as it was also quite overplayed so I am sick of it too.
2. Outkast- Hey Ya is an okay song also. It does have a beat that is good especially for clubs but it is just stupid in lyrics. And the Hey Ya part everyone tries to act goofy annoying after a while. This is one of my least favorite Outkast songs. 7/10
3. Beyonce- Naughty Girl is a good song. One of the best on this CD. I like the beat and the lyrics and it just is a good song. Only problem it too was way too overplayed. 9/10
4. Nina Sky-Move Your Body is a great dance song. Not much else to say about it. It is an good song. 9/10
5. Christina Milan-Dip it Low was also a great club song and a bit hit on the radio. It is also a 9/10
6. Black Eyed Peas-Hey Mamma is a good song with a good beat. It just makes you want to dance and it is actually one of the least over played songs by them. 10/10
7. Beenie Man- Dude is a song I had not heard very much before this. It was not really played on our rap station unless it was when no one was listening. But, I actually like the song it is a reggae filled song with a good beat. It is islandly and a cool song. 10/10
8. Petey Pablo- Freek-A-Leek is a song that I loved when I first heard but it got played so much that I am now really annoyed with it. It does have a good beat and is great when your at the clubs or driving in the summer with the windows down, but that is about all I can stand this song. 8/10
9. Juvenile- Slow Motion is the reason I bought this CD. I never heard this song on the radio, but, as soon as I bought this CD it was played so much and was played at the clubs every time I went. I am so sick of it. But in time I will love it again. 9/10
10. Jo Jo - Leave (Get Out) is in my opinion the worst song on the CD. I can't stand her voice or the song. I personally think she is trying to act to old for her young age! They grow up to fast already anyways. 1/10
11. Chingy- One Call Away is a good song although Chingy had a lot better songs out at the time that should have been on this one! But it is not a bad song. 8/10
12. Britney Spears -Everytime is a sweet song that got played to death! It actually drives me nuts now. I also don't feel it is the best Britney song as she is better at the whole pop/dance genre. 8/10
13. Jessica Simpson- Take My Breath Away is a great cover song but again not the best song that came out for the year. I think there were other songs better to be picked. 8/10
14. Hoobastank- The Reason is a great Hoobastank song. It is actually their best song in my opinion. But, the play time on it is way too much. It is everywhere and is overplayed. It is however a good song. 9/10
15. Lenny Kravitz - Where Are We Runnin'? I love this song the most on the CD. I never hear it on the radio which may be a blessing but I have heard it in commercials. I like the beat and it just rocks. 10/10
16. Yellowcard-Ocean Avenue was their hit single but Only You was a lot better song. I think this song holds it own though in this CD even though I am not a Yellowcard fan. 8/10
17. Three Days Grace -Just Like You I never have been a fan of hard rock but I really like Three Days Grace and I really like this song it is a great song to have on here. 10/10
18. Switchfoot- Meant To Live is an awesome song. They have done well in their cross over from Christian to mainstream. I think this is also the best CD ever put out by them.. And one of the best CDs of the year. 10/10
19. Los Lonely Boys - Heaven is a song that I didn't like at first but I guess getting played on the radio is a good thing as I now like this song. It is better than I gave it credit for. 8/10
20. Gretchen Wilson -Redneck Woman this song is okay it will really have to grow on me as I am not a country fan and I am not a fan of Gretchen Wilson and her life story. I do like it more and more I hear it and it is popular at the local bar I go to. 8/10
