Essential Listening

While driving through the forests of southern Maine during my vacation this summer, I happened upon a wonderful radio station that was reminiscent of the early days of FM. The play list was not the stale, fetid 'classic rock' or the even more insidious 'adult contemporary' formulas most of us are bludgeoned with on a daily basis while going about our business. This station was playing a refreshing mix of the old and the new, the popular to the downright obscure. I was thoroughly enjoying the listening experience when the most amazing, soulfully earthy acoustic song started to play. I was transfixed and knew immediately that I had to own this music. To my relief, the radio station credited this great song to Bruce Cockburn....the song was "Use Me While You Can".
Upon returning home, I immediately ordered the CD from Amazon and I haven't stopped listening to it. All the songs are warm and engaging, the lyrics are touching and poignant. Every song is a winner, including the soulful cover of "Blueberry Hill". The two purely instrumental pieces, "Down To the Delta" and "Deep Lake" are among my favorite tracks. "Isn't That What Friends Are For?" sung with Lucinda Williams is sad and beautiful, "Mango" has a world beat that is infectious.
The highlight of the album for me is the aforementioned "Use Me While You Can" which is moody, haunting and lonely. This is a desert song through and through.
I own other Bruce Cockburn albums, but this is my absolute favorite. I cannot recommend it highly enough!

Josh is the Best!!!

I LOVE this cd!!!!!!! It is permanently in my cd player --- I love it that much! As well as being an avid Grobanite (why aren't YOU???), I'm also becoming a HUGE classical-crossover/popera fan. This cd is INCREDIBLE. A voice like this comes along only once per generation, and if you haven't heard Josh you need to hear him NOW!!!! There is something for everybody on this cd - whether you want to be happy, sad, joyful..anything and everything, along w/ crossing all genres and people! His voice has brought people together in a way I have never seen before, and as corny as this sounds, I truly believe that Josh (and his AMAZING ;-P voice) have changed my life forever. It is my general opinion that Josh was sent here if not to shake the world than to change the lives of some people permanently. And now on w/ my review:
Alla Luce del Sole - MY FAVORITE! His voice is just so powerful on this track, it gives me goosebumps!!!Gira Con Me - An absolutely gorgeous song -- romantic, fluid, and sweet! You're Still You - It's such a sweet song! And sort of sad too, but overall just extremely sentimental.Cinema Paridiso (Se) - A beautiful song from a beautiful movie, this song is almost haunting. To Where You Are - A widespread favorite, EXTREMELY sentimental, sad, sweet, and powerful. Very full of emotion.Alejate - Great Spanish diction, powerful, emotional...another one of my favorites. 'Alejate' means 'Just Walk Away' -- the song is sad.Canto Alla Vita - you basic up-beat pop tune, along w/ the Corrs. A good pick-me-up if I'm feeling down.Let Me Fall - from Cirque De Soleil. What a fabulous song!!! THIS ONE really gets in your blood - the most haunting on the album.Vincent - Beautiful imagery in this one..Josh's voice does it incredible justice.Un Amore Per Sempre - The most dramatic song on the album --- my second favorite. Josh's voice just ... WOW!!!! on this one.Home To Stay - real sweet song, simple..I like it.Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring - Mom hates this one, but I think it rox! LOVE the electric guitary! The Prayer - Charlotte Church ew. I have heard clips of Josh singing this w/ Celine Dion and it is SO much better.
BUY THIS!!!!! YOU MUST!!!!!

New Order are ON A ROLL!!

This is another hit by New Order! I regard "Get Ready" as New Order's best album since "Low Life" (not weakest, like the previous reviewer, how could he!!!), so if you liked "Get Ready", this new album continues in the same fashhion, i.e. flawless production, lots of powerful guitars accompanied by just the right amount of synths and Peter Hook's awesome trademark bass hooks, which is exactly what you should expect from New Order, therefore this album gets 5 stars and nothing less! Highlights are the awesome title track, Krafty (probably the cathiest New Order single ever!) and track #2. There are really only two fillers, i.e. track #5 and the bonus track.
