You know you've found a great song when you find yourself singing or humming it all day long. With Clay Aikens "Measure of a Man" I find myself singing the entire album! This is the first CD I've ever owned that I love every song on it. Thank you Clay and RCA!

"Christina, it was worth the wait!"

Christina Aguilera is one of the most talented vocalists of the decade. I was amazed at how much she has growm vocally and by her versitility. Her neo soul influenced "Loving Me 4 Me" blew me off my feet. "Beautiful" lives up to its name, simply breath-taking. "Impossible" is incredible. I can't express how happy I am glad that Christina is letting her true colors show. What we saw from Christina up to this point was nothing. The album is one of the best of the year. I was thrilled to hear that she realized that "singing" isn't all the runs and vocal relays she did before. When you are as talented as she is, all of that is totally uncalled for. She has a beautiful voice that is displayed at its best with live instruments in what I call the musical effort of the year.

different breed

brilliant. light years ahead of its time. the raps are so spaced-out, complex, and over your head that it seems like it's coming from a guy whose spent his whole life reading science fiction fantasy books and science theory textbooks, watching old episodes of Star Trek and very dirty pornography, all the while trying to figure out how to turn his chaotic Burroughs-like dementia of an imagination into this beautiful music. Q-bert's scratches are manic and Dan the Automator's production is unique. expect to see robots and purple fingered green wasp winged extraterrestrials dancing and relieving their blocked-up erotic desires to filth mags in negative color. robert deniro, watch your back....there's a new mc in town, and his name ain't Jerry Lee Lewis. It's actually Chaddy Waddy Cow Wadder Hedwig. Nevermind that....
"earth people, new yourk and caliafornia, earth people, was born on Jupiter...."
God, that alligator-shark man is sexy!

Not as poppy as it sounds

This album at first glance seems to be a supercharged set list of songs with upbeat melodies and catchy beats. You ask most people what they think of when you mention "Dancing in the Dark" and they'll mention that horribly eighties looking video. But so much more lies underneath this seemingly mindlessly catchy album. It is all too easy to mistake these songs for pop, Ronald Reagan did it when he chose Born in the U.S.A. as his campaign song, completely missing the fact that it is a harshly anti-republican anthem about a Vietnam vet trying to find work during a recession. In fact, not one of the songs on this album is about a happy story or a successful life. They all end in jail, out of love, or still struggling. These themes are nothing new to anyone who has listened to Springsteen's other albums, he has always championed the fighting yet doomed loser. It is just that on this album the lyrics are sugar coated in upbeat music, making it easy to forget that Dancing in the Dark is not about some guy out partying around, but an out of place misfit who just wants one sign anywhere that somebody is still alive. I do not know whether it is the time that has passed since his first albums, or what made Bruce decide to back his usual cast of characters with such upbeat catchy tunes, but don't be fooled by your first listen. This is still the brooding, touching, operatic Springsteen of former albums, and his characters are still losers, yet they're all still trying, they're all pulling out of here to win.
