The best soundtrack in a long time

I've listened to many soundtracks over the years, but few have been as moving as this CD. Brian Tyler is obviously a work-a-holic. Reading the insert that came with the CD, it mentions that he wrote 176 different scores for the film. 176! Wow. Not only that, but he translated part of the Fremen language and put those words down to song (an incredible montage entitled Inama Nushif).
Not since the Godfather and Lonesome Dove has a series been so enticing thanks to its musical score.
My favorites on this CD were 'The Arrival of Lady Jessica' and the above mentioned 'Inama Nushif' montage.
I wouldn't be surprise to see Brian Tyler up on stage accepting awards for this resounding success. Bravo, Mr. Tyler. Bravo!

Straight Up Guilty Pleasure

Say what you will about Paula Abdul--she doesn't sing very well and her music is often derivative--but one thing is certain: she came out with some of the catchiest songs of the 1980s. This album has all the ingredients of a hit: sharp beats, slammin' grooves, and Abdul's whiny voice, which, in a strange way, sounds good. Standouts include "The Way That You Love Me," the Babyface-penned "Knocked Out," and the memorable "Cold Hearted." In the age of pale imitators like Britney Spears, we need an artist like Abdul more badly now than ever. She was never remembered as a "deep" artist like poseur Alanis Morrissette, but she delivered some well-crafted pop tunes in her day.

Now 17 Has Too Much Rap, Now 18 Has Less....

I think Now 17 is a decent cd. I saw the tracklisting for Now 18, and it looks so-so. Some of the songs on there weren't even hits. I took a long at the tracklisting and also the song length of each song on Now 18, and discovered that some songs had been cut by quite an amount (Specifically: Soldier, O, Disappear, Home, and You're My Better Half). I know that they put radio versions and such on there, but I'd actually like to hear the whole song, and not have it cut by 30 seconds or more. That's just my opinion though.

Classic Miles

This is one of the best, if not the best, classic jazz album(s) of all time. You're not a true jazz fan until you have purchased this particular album. I've studied this album well during my college years, and several years later, I still find that no other jazz album measures up to this greatness. Buy it and you will enjoy it. And, that's a guarantee. (I also recommend 'The Gentle Side of John Coltrane' and 'Love Supreme' by Coltrane and 'Joshua Redman Quartet: Spirit of the Moment, Live at the Village Vanguard' in addition to this album.)
