STAR QUALITY

Surprising debut. So clean, crisp and smooth. I loved 'For once in my Life' and Come fly with me. Moondance will always remind me of Van, but Buble' has convinced me that he is what great artists are all about - they rise to the challenge. Brilliant debut.

Ahhhhh.....

Ok, so Andrea Bocelli is no Pavarotti. He simply doesn't have the technique a professional opera singer should have. His pitch and breath control (you can only tell the latter during live performances) are sub-par. But perhaps what makes him such a joy to listen to is that he sounds like he's trying hard. The extra effort he has to put in to hit notes (which seem to come without effort from Pavarotti) just adds to the passion in his voice. He somehow sounds more intense and <<real>> for his inadequacies. I think he's sort of the Mario Lanza of our generation.
But I am not a fan of the Italian pop that makes up most of this cd. It's not the melody or the lyrics (although how many songs can you have about love? It's sickening, really) but the fake 80s style drums. They are in nearly all the songs, and they really make the music sound cheap. Most of these songs, actually, are just Italian version of slow 80s pop.
With all this complaining, it may be hard to see why I gave this cd four stars. Well, as stated earlier, although his voice is not technically perfect, it is still quite enjoyable. And there are three songs on the cd that make it worth buying:
The Prayer - such a gorgeous song, beautiful duet with Celine Dion. This song has played on the radio.
O Mare E Tu - buy this cd for this song. Dulce Pontes is wonderful, and the song is so different and interesting!
Songo - no fake drums on this song. it's nice, but his pitch on the high parts is not that great. The melody reminds me of the theme from Twin Peaks. It's what you could call "singable."
It's for these three songs that I gave this cd four stars and it's also for these three songs that I recommend it. The others are nice for some light background music during dinner, but nothing to get chills over. If you're a fan of Andrea Bocelli, get the cd and ignore the drums if you can, and you'll get your money's worth out of it. Then buy his classical stuff (I recommend the Verdi cd). Enjoy!

Good, but could be better

I was a little disappointed in this CD...I was under the impression that artist's release CD's to release singles from that CD. I really can't see anyone of these songs standing on its own as a single. Don't get me wrong, I definitely think everyone should buy this CD only because it is Madonna but it is rather weak to me. American Life did not do too well on radio as it was, but a rock version? Nah...It just doesn't cut it. The other remixes are ok but I expected better. The unreleased song from the "Bedtime Stories" CD, "Your Honesty" is a good song for the time it was written. I do not think it would do well now. I could see "Into the Hollywood Grove" with Missy Elliot being played on radio. To me, it the best song on the CD.
