Bjork and Icelanders Do Enhanced Acapellas...

...or, Bjork Unplugged, kinda. I was already into the Wunderkind from Reykjavik long before she did the (I bet she wish she hadn't worn that) swan tutu at the Oscars some years back. I got into her tribal anglo sound, the chanting backgrounds and her howling orgasmics to a techno/no-techno beat. Here, she removes the electro-blipping beats and do everything by heart, so to speak. And it is stunning. We again catch Bjork in confessional mode ('when will it be time to document this submarine behavior') and. her. vo. cal. style. is. search. ing. for an-aaaaan-saaaaahs! But this time you ain't distracted by the technobeat enough to hear the awesome harmonies and the lyrics ('a skeleton of trust, right beneath us'). Again, it is stunning. I think a live performance would be mind blowing.

This LP will hook you with music and pierce you with emotion

I like a lot of different music, and I do not think I have ever connected with an LP from the first listen like I did with Bitter. With this album, Meshell Ndegeocello has earned my utmost respect. The music is sparse and haunting, but what amazed me is Meshell's ability to articulate, in simple terms, and free of allegories and metaphors, the gamut of emotions that run through, and run over, someone in love. In my opinion, she charts new territory for songwriting. "Sincerity" has to be the best song on unrequited love I have ever heard. Other outstanding tracks are "Fool of Me," "Loyalty," "Grace" and the title track.
This is a TRUE Rhythm and Blues album, the best album of 1999, and one of the best I've heard since a little skinny dude from Uptown dropped Lovesexy. Please buy it.

stop dissin' this album!!!

all you "hard-core" daft punk fans who keep saying that Human after all is not very good are completely crazy! this album is a great example of daft punk's genius. the fact that it's totally different than discovery or homework just shows their diversity and their ability to evolve over time. if they were to put out stuff that all sounded the same it would get boring! their new sound is fresh, yet reminiscent of old-school beats. There are many strong tracks, and the album comes together well as a whole. I know i'm definitely not disappointed in daft punk's newest creation.
