Bringing it back!

Clay's album 'Measure of a Man' is such a treat to listen to. Pop music has gone down hill in the past 10 years and it is so refreshing to be able to listen to Clay's voice and actually hear the way should be made. Let us hope that Clay will bring back the good ole music! The whole album is truly fabulous.

Essential is for new fans w limited budget OR die-hard fans

Essential is for those new to Bruce and with limited budget AND for those die-hard fans (but not for fans in between).

For Die-Hard Boss fans:

The bonus CD itself is worth the $15-20 alone. You will also recognize some amazing songs are left of the first two CDs like Candy's Room, My City of Ruins, Johnny 99, State Trooper, Highway Patrolman, Incident of 57th, Racing in the Street, etc as well as some songs on these CDs that may not be your favorites like Dancing in the Dark, Leap of Faith, Tunnel of Love, etc. Who cares about the first 2 discs if you are a die-hard Springsteen fan you have it all anyway except the rarities disc. If you are a die-hard fan you know the rarities disc 3 ranks up there with some of his best. Springsteen often wrote 100's of songs for 1 album only to pick the 10-15 songs that fit a certain theme which left off quite a few jems. The ones that didn't make it on those theme based LPs/CDs appear on the 18 Tracks, Tracks Box, and this Bonus CD. The die-hard fans will also recognize how many of these songs were played at his concerts but never released. Again, for you die-hards the bonus disc alone is worth the $20. If you liked the Tracks box or 18 tracks you will love the 12 Tracks on the bonus CD too! Only a couple of which you may have on LP or tape but not CD unless you have some bootlegs.

For those of you new to the Boss and/or with a limited budget:

This is a great introduction. Much better than the other Greatest Hits CD from 1995 with Murder Incorporated, This Hard Land etc. If you like what you hear on the Essential and can part with the cash, pick the eras you like best and then go after those studio albums. Note there is nothing from the Live 75 - 85 box set which is a shame. Although there are better live bootlegs which are full show (Passiac 9.19.1978), the Live Box set really gives the new Springsteen fan or curious music fan a better idea of what an amazing songwriter, lyricist, singer, performer, guitarist, trabadour, bandleader and artist that is (or was) Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band. That is if you are willing to part with $30-$50 to get the Live 75-85 CD box set. If not this Essential CD set with bonus disc is your best place to start. If you like what you hear and want to pursue more I suggest starting first with "Born to Run", then "Darkness on the Edge of Town", and finally "The River". If you are still hooked I also recommend The Ghost of Tom Joad if you like the folk stuff. Very folky so not much there for the music, song structure etc., but very moving because of the great lyrics, mood and truth that comes from deep within the Boss. From there if you want more check out "The Wild, Innocent, and the E Street Shuffle", "Born in the USA" and "Nebraska". Still hooked? Get the rest starting with the Live Box 75-85. Only ones I caution you on is "Greeting from Asbury Park", "MTV Plugged" and "Human Touch". Best avoid those three unless you are obsessed which is beyond die-hard.

For those Springsteen fans in between new and die hard:

Forget it. Don't waste your money.

Great CD!

Very good CD, it makes me think about everything and its good when your working or when your sleeping. It have one or two "bad" songs but the rest are top quality. "My Weekness" always makes me think and put me in good mud. And if you enjoy the essays of Moby, then you'll love it! I advice you to buy it...

More like a question

I know the Latin song that is not included on the soundtrack is called "Bem Bem Maria" and the song at the end is called "Change Your Mind", but does anybody know the name of the song that plays while Elizabeth is playing pool and the cueball bounces down the stairs to Brendan's feet?
The songs that most people would buy the CD for are not on the CD at all. Buy instead a Sister Hazel or Spanish Kings CD.
