Rating: 5/5

Bruce Hornsby and the Range tell you the way it is!

Bruce Hornsby worked with Ambrosia shortly before the group disbanded for seven years. That's how he met Range bassist Joe Puerta. In 1986,four years after the temporary disbanding of Ambrosia,Hornsby,Puerta and the other three Range members(sorry,I don't remember all the names),recorded their debut THE WAY IT IS. It spawned three hits. They are the title track,MANDOLIN RAIN and EVERY LITTLE KISS. Huey Lewis sings background on DOWN THE ROAD TONIGHT. Many BH&TR fans are also fans of Ambrosia and Huey Lewis & the News.

Very strong comeback

Two Against Nature was the first studio album Steely Dan would release since 1980's Gaucho. Amazingly, this album takes over from where they left off. Steely Dan continue to sound like no other band, conbining elements of rock, jazz, and funk flawlessly while continuing to show outstanding musicianship and creating memorable songs. This album fits in nicely with the rest of their strong collection of music.

The first single "Cousin Dupree" is certainly the catchiest track of the album and should have been a huge hit. The title track is irresistible with its funky bass line, keyboard flourishes, tasty guitar work, and excellent sax solo. This track only gets better with repeated listens and is certainly the best track they've recorded since the Aja album. The strongest tracks appear to be the tracks where the horns are very prevalent, such as "Jack Of Speed", "West Of Hollywood", and "Almost Gothic", the last sounding very reminiscent of their music from the Pretzel Logic or Katy Lied albums. Other tracks such as the opener "Gaslighting Abbie", the mid-tempo "What A Shame About Me", and "Janie Runaway" are all very good. Everything here is very well done, but the album isn't fantastic from beginning to end like Pretzel Logic or Aja. However, it's a stronger album than either Gaucho or The Royal Scam. Donald Fagen's vocals continue to be in fine form, even if they're not nearly as strong as on their '70s releases. A very strong album, definitely worth checking out.

Title: One World
Label: RCA
Artist: John Denver
Rating: 5/5

A Great Closing Album

John's gift to the world of music under his RCA label came to a close with the release of this album- and sadly so. Here we find the seasoned songwriter and performer again on the top of his game. After releasing "Dreamland Express", an experimental album with a different feel than the ordinary Dever we all have come to love, John crafted "One World" to be among his finest. The album opens with "Love is the Master", an uplifting, upbeat, and most certain John Denver classic. As the album continues, we see the softer, honest John Denver in "Love Again", the open minded optimist in "It's a Possibility", the socially aware in "Let Us Begin" (watch out Mr. Dylan, John makes some brilliant moves with this strong dialogue between a world divided). This album showcases John's incredible scope as an artist, writer, and performer in the beauty, and grace you'd expect only from him. "Flying for Me" alone will give this album 5 stars... put it on your wish list you won't dissapointed!
