Good selection of songs but . . .

I enjoyed the quaint old songs and think that there is a bit of humor behind J.P. singing them. Glad he's back to making albums again. We want more originals though!

To be listened to again and again

E. Power Biggs is the only recorded organist with which I am familiar, but I have thoroughly enjoyed his interpretations of Bach.
His version of the Anna Magdalena notebook is delightful, and the chorales are performed in such a way that they are both sonically powerful and emotionally moving. The "Sheep may safely graze" is deep, yet charming.
Finally, what a beautiful piece is found in "Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring," which closes this disc. It is played simply, but it always manages to be profound as well.

The force is with this album

If you like Star Wars Trilogy you will love this album. The excellent masterpiece created by J Williams will transport you to the far far away galaxy. Listen to the overture, the famous musical SW theme-a classic. You can live every aspect of the movie and with the book you can know what scene exactly is realted to each theme. One of the most beautiful parts is the Imperial March (with the choir). Just play it you will feel inside the great Death Star in front of DV and the Emperor. Another great part is when Leia is told that she is Luke's sister.. feel the emotions in the music, and live the victory of the rebellion at the end with the ewok celebration... I can only add, if you like the movies trilogy play it and close your eyes.. you will enjoy it a lot.

Title: Devils & Dust

The Worst Boss Record To Date...

Springsteen used to be known an a perfectionist who would spend years working on a project before he felt it was good enough for release. That all must have changed, as "Devils & Dust" isn't just the worst Springsteen record I've ever heard it's also one of the worst records overall that I've heard.

When I heard this was going to be a more acoustic type project I figured great, we'd have something between Nebraska and The Ghost of Tom Joad. What Springsteen released is subpar music and subpar lyrics. I don't know when Bruce became so out of touch with reality, but the lyrics of this record are a bit too out there for my taste.

"Reno" is perhaps the worst single song Springsteen has ever written. It's pure trash about an encounter with a whore. You'd think Bruce would have better things to write about, but I guess this is what he's been reduced to now.

On about half the songs Bruce tries to sing in a falsetto, which made me wonder if this album was put out as some sort of twisted joke. I'm all for artists stretching their range, but a few of these songs sound nothing like the Springsteen I've experienced over the past 20 years.

The other sonic problem with the disc is the vocals are so buried in the mix that you can barely understand them, which is great for a rock and roll record, but this is a record where the lyrics are SUPPOSED to be the center of attention. Maybe those mixing it realized the lyrics were as bad as they are and decided to give the listener a break.

The other physical problem with the disc is that it says it's not compatible with all cd players. Here we go again, the music industry is so paranoid that someone is going to rip this and share it online that they've made it so some people won't be able to play the disc they paid good money to listen to. On the bright side, with the quality of this record I doubt it's going to be one people want to trade on the Internet!

Sorry Bruce, hope you do better next time.
