Jekyll & Hyde - addittion to any musicals collection

Jekyll & Hyde is one hell of a show. This studio recording not only comprises an entire show that works aurally, there is enough musical and lurical detail to enable the listener to visualise the show. The narrative is strong and logical, the characters are mainly well drawn...especially the big three: Jekyll/Hyde, Lucy and Lisa. While some of the minor characters are a trifle one dimensional, due to the nature of this as a recording, these roels would be fleshed out on stage.
The highlights of this album are most definitely Warlow and Eder. Warlow turns in a bravura performance...easily distinguishing between the Jekyll and Hyde through a consummate use of his speaking and singing voice...it must be no easy task to mark the cleat delination between J&H using sound only, but Warlow accomplsihes this effortlessly, in the places where J&H are both present in the score the listener can pinpoint exactly who is singing what. The "Confrontation" must be heard to be believed, the clarity and purity of his voice is astonishing.
Eder has a great belt voice, very strong and ringing, and while Lisa and Lucy seem to function as flipsides of the same coin, each providing a love interest for J or H, Eder shines with her material..alternately vulnerable, strong, hopeless and flirtatious.
over all, this album is a must for any musical theatre fan who is not averse to gothic tales, great music <with some pop influences that woprk tremendously well> and fabulous performances, especially from Warlow.
A most definite addition. Buy this recording, Warlow is most definitely the ultimate J&H in my opinion!

My favorite album ever.

Let me save you some time: stop reading these reviews and buy the album immediately. It is that good.

Listening to this album has brought so much joy to my life I would gladly pay 10 or even 20 times its price if I had to. In fact, when I was looking through my albums recently, I decided that although I have many favorites that I hold very dear, this is the one album I would be most unable to do without.

Tracey Thorn's vocals are absolutely perfect, and perfectly recorded. The songs flow into each other so well, I always, always listen to the album all the way through. This is, to my mind, the mark of a perfect album. Each song can hold its own, and none make you reach for the "skip" button, even after you've heard the album countless times. It sounds just as good now as it did when it first came out. I honestly expect the music will sound just as good 10 or 20 years down the road. In other words, a true classic.

This album always sounds great, but it really deserves to be heard on a quality hi-fi system. It brings out details in the music you can easily miss on an iPod. And Tracey's voice sounds so beautiful you will want to hear every nuance.

To recap: Best album ever, every song is great, a true classic and a masterpiece. What in the world are you waiting for?

DON'T WRITE IT OFF!!!!

I was very worried when they said that Bjork's next album was going to be all vocal. And when I first heard it I was a little weirded out. But don't write this album off!It is the most intriguing album of our times!I have never heard anything like it. It has something for everyone;hip-hop to classical music lovers. It is truly amazing, unreal and a work of art. I don't know how she'll top this one off...

The Bee Gees at their best!!

After attending the "One Night Only" concert at Wembley Stadium on Sep. 5, 1998, I was able to purchase the CD in London on the 7th. I've, therefore, had a 2 month headstart on the enjoyment provided by this album. 30 years later and still going strong. Its a must have for any Bee Gees fan.
