Whatever happened to......

Having seen John Cafferty and Beaver Brown the previous December here at Bogart's in Cincinnati, I was expecting a lot out of this album. As it turned out, Tough All Over was a great album, very listenable all the way through, but after their stellar performance in concert, I admit I was expecting more. Don't get me wrong. This is a great album. I just always felt like something was missing. By the way, does anyone know whatever happened to JC&BB?

Not the Clay I was hoping for

Okay, I know many of you Clay fans will be disappointed with this review, but my goal is to be helpful and write an honest assessment.
I love Clay's voice, but the style of music on this CD didn't showcase the voice I love. There was too much straining and too much of a boy-band sound to the album. My guess is that teeny-boppers as a group may enjoy it more than some of us mothers and grandmothers who are big Clay fans.
In addition, it was disappointing that the background music over-powered our Clay's voice on many of the selections. I wondered what the producers were thinking here. This is a voice we want to hear, not cover up.
My CD found a good home with someone who will appreciate it more than I did. I am very much looking forward to Clay's next CD, and when the selection of songs is made, I truly hope that there are songs that will showcase his beautiful voice, and arrangements that will not obscure it.

Before Stardom...

Before he was famous, before he was a household name, John Denver was trying to make name for himself. Included in this compilation were songs that spoke to a generation. Anti-war and anti-establishment, these songs found meaning to the disenfranchised. "Casey's Last Ride" and "Spanish Pipe Dream" were songs I was too young to fully understand, at the time, but totally appreciated as I've become "older." While these songs are not only a part of history, they reinforce the ideals of that generation that I was at the tail end of. I truly believe this is one of his greatest albums. While he may not have written many of the songs included in this album, he gives due credit to the likes of Kris Kristofferson and Tom Paxton by singing their songs with feeling and understanding. The songs that are written by Denver, such as "Eagle and the Hawk," are truly inspirational and give a hint to his future prowess as a singer and songwriter. I'd recommend this "album" to anyone who's willing to listen to a John Denver before he became a commercial success.

This gets a (-)5 stars if I could give that..

I am a die-hard evanescence fan...but also really love classical and instrumental music...but ouch...my ears are still ringing from the pain of this CD! It is so vary remedial and lacks any kind of emotion. It is blasphemous to Evanescence if you ask me. Now if a group like Apocalyptica had done this CD...it would be comepletly awesome, but this...no... So unless you are a macoshist or somthing...don't waste you money or time with this CD....
