John's Greatest Origional album

Ever before MTV made unplugged sessions popular, JD, in 1974 (the year of my birth) with Back Home Again produced one of the most sublimely raw and unplugged albums of all time! The classic 'Annie's Song', the sing-along 'Back Home Again', and the autobiographical 'This Old Guitar', need I say more.....

Horrible CD, do not buy, do not recommend

I have been to many *N Sync concerts and know their potential talent. Their debut album was great, but this album definitely shows the limits of the 5 guys. I strongly recommend that you look elsewhere for a good CD. Their lack of true spirit in their voices definitely shows on this album.

A Lovely disc - but consider some others

First off, the relese of this collection was a month after the WTC horror. people were attepmting to figure out what the hell was going on. Record companies, movie and televsion companies put together many compilations of movies, songs, etc, guarenteed to stir the blood[and ring the cash register].Columbia records has an almost unfair advantage in their vaults:most of the history of American music passed through their studios. Its hard not to love an album, any album[well, outside of Duets} that could include such a group as Bob Dylan, Frank Sinatra,Mahalia Jackson,Pete seeger and Tramaine Hawkins.Bruce springsteen and John Mellencamp add thier cuts, and are two of the better ones on the album{Land of Hopeful Dreams and Peacful Country, respectively.} The choice of Celine Duion to open is bizzare,as is the inclusion of Mariah Carey and Gloria estafan{unless its for some musical p.c.purpose} Hell, they could have included Bessie Smith and Billie Holliday {Strrange Fruit would have been an interesting selection]from thevaults with much greater success...this album{it was given to me as a gift],with the"substantial portions of the proceeds will go to..." 5 months later has a bad taste to it. This music can give great succor and a feeling of community, but it could also lead easily to jingosim{Look at the Winter Olympiad currentl;y under way. Bought with huge bribes, and this is hardly mentioned.}None of us who live in this town will ever forget that day,nor the terror in waiting for my kids to call in and say they were Ok.I simply do not think that the stirring of patriotism without nuance is helpful, presently. Many of these songs were wirtten as PROTESTS of American institutions, not flag waving hysteria{I remeber being at a springsteen concert in NJ when He was singing Born in the USa,and people were taking it as a flag waving moment, rather then the despair of a man who couldnt make ends meet} Oscar Wilde once said patriotism is the refuge of the viscious. That is what this collection reminded me of. Sad ,,horrible day, little helped by self serving music...

Something For Floyd To Sweep Away

Hopefully this CD will be taken away by the next natural disaster. This is awful stuff.
