I hope it's not too late to try and persuade music listeners who like a good CD to buy this one. I have to admit I didn't go out and buy it right away, since I was watching critic reviews (some good, some not-so-good, but most middle-of-the-road) and also consumers' reaction. (Although I did hear little tidbits of it from my daughter's copy.) What I really noticed was the abundance of mostly positive reviews here at Amazon and MOAM's position being consistently in the top 10 best-sellers that swayed me. I am sorry waited. This is a really good CD.
I can't believe some people can't get past the "writing" and "production" of the songs and listen to the voice -- the voice is what really makes these songs work. What strikes me are the similarities between Clay Aiken's style and Steve Perry's of Journey - one of my favorite groups. I truly believe Steve Perry could record several of these songs and turn them into successful singles -- so why not Clay Aiken?? I would honestly prefer his melodic voice to the raspy voices of some of today's rock artists.
At any rate, all I can say is as a debut effort, it is exceptional, and I think he will evolve into a SUPERIOR artist over time. GOOD MUSIC!!

The best horror soundtrack ever!

This is the best horror sound track I have ever listened to. The music is dark, creepy, and so bone chilling that it makes you feel that you are actually with Candyman himself. I saw the movie and loved it. I personally think that what really captured the horror of the film, was the music itself. The music is the horror, not the movie. If anyone out there loves dark and earie music, then this CD is it! Remeber; candyman, candyman, candyman, candyman...

Renee's jazz/ballad journey

As a preamble to my review, let me state that I am an unabashed Renee Fleming fan. I have been waiting, as have many of you, for Renee's "jazz cd" since she first announced it last fall. Now that it is here, and I have listened to it a few times,
I can say that Renee certainly has the "chops" to sing jazz and popular tunes, and does it well. I was a bit disappointed in that the rhythms, key signatures and tempi of almost all the song choices were similar, and so, I cannot call this a jazz cd, but rather a ballad cd. I especially loved Renee's cover of the Lennon/McCartney standard "In My Life." Renee's voice resonates to this listener as if I were hearing Nancy Wilson or Ann Hampton Callaway singing, but I also hear a bit of Linda Ronstadt, as when Ms. Ronstadt sang those amazing covers of jazz standards and ballads with Nelson Riddle and his orchestra in 1983/1984 ("Lush Life" and "What's New" are the titles of two of them). Again, all of these chanteuses "mixed it up" with up-tempo jazz standards and some scatting, as well as singing slower, more languid and poignant ballads on their cds. So, Renee, kudos on this fine effort, keep it up, but just "mix it up" a bit more next time. And don't ever give up Handel, Mozart and Strauss.

MWS is simply brilliant....

This is a musician that had better never retire. I honestly don't think Smitty can make a bad CD. I felt that Live the Life had been the topper on his career. His best. I was wrong. His best will never be met as long as he making CD's. The next one just keeps getting better. The music is incredible. He mixes it up quite well. He is a tool of God in the music industry and I hope he continues to make music for many years....
