a music lover from rochester, ny

I really do love this cd. The more I hear it the more I like. I keep hearing that his range is not heard on this cd. Well I think its pretty obvious how good he can sing. Not every song he sings is going to be as powerful as Bridge Over Troubled Water. Some are saying that he should be contemporary not pop. Well if you listen to pop stations you will hear other artists that sing more contemporary/pop songs such as jewel, no mercy, john mayer, etc. There will be some ppl that will not like the songs because they are not about sex or dirty in some way. That is what most popular songs are about today, which is sad. The good thing about Clay is that he will not change just to be popular. He may change the way he looks but not who he is. Measure of a Man adds a nice twist in the music industry and I hope it does do well. Clay is a very unique person and I really think that that alone will keep him around for a long time. The fact that he has one of the best voices out there just adds to his character. Hooray for Clay!!!! We Love You!!! Don't change, Stay real!!!!! ;)

Inspired Work

Absent mental illness or the onset of senility, true genius does not diminish with time or advancing years...
You don't hear people say, "That was Beethoven's best symphony since the 5th." Every work is new and fresh. Comparisons to Hunky Dory and other past works are missing the point--that point being: this is something entirely different and something extraordinary. Just because it is melodic, does not make it the same as the album Hunky Dory. Thank God. While I truly love Hunky Dory, as well as most of Bowie's earlier work, I have longed for something new, something better ... This CD is it. It is so good, so obvioulsy genius, I don't understand the critics of it ... But what can I say? Perhaps its just a matter of taste, as I am sure some people do not like Beethoven; and Paul McCarney's new album has posted higher in the U.S. charts?
As I said, true genius does not diminish just because someone happens to be 51 or 61 for that matter. A lifetime of creative experiences improves and adds depth to new and better material.
David Bowie is most certainly not mentally ill or senile, his family history not withstanding. That leaves only one remaining conclusion: listen to the "hours..." CD, forget the past, and that conclusion should be obvious to you.
Keep up the outstanding work Mr. Bowie. We await your next adventure.

Light hearted and fun.

When watching the movie, my friend and I commented that this would have to be a great soundtrack. Wrong. Many good songs are left out (where are Aretha and Van Morrison?) Sorry I can't agree with others on the Shelby Lynne, Sheryl Crow and Rosey songs. I found them boring, and couldn't even remember them in the film. I bought an extra copy for my friend for her birthday, but returned it. Two people in my office borrowed the CD to see if they wanted to buy it, and both declined for all of the reasons listed above. Save your money.

Dear Manfred Eicher,

Your label, ECM, is just way too much. My cold, withered soul cannot handle beauty of this magnitude, which you are somehow able to release with stunning regularity. This album _Achirana_ by the Tsarbropoulos/Andersen/Marshall piano trio is one of the most suffocatingly rapturous things I have heard yet. Surely, if you keep this up, you will destroy me.
