Wow! What a voice! Great CD, too.

Each time I listen (and they are many) I am always refreshed spiritually by the words of the songs and also by the manner in which they are sung. They seem to come from a personal relationship with God and directly from his heart.

Great Album

I am a Russell Watson fan and this is not really a review. I just want to rate this album 5 Stars because of the awful people who are so unjustly critical of his album. He is my favorite singer and this is my favorite album.

Disappointed Fan

Combine the harsh black, white and red album cover with the withdrawn video for the first single and you might think Madonna had lost it in the music world for the very first time.
Much has happened since the April 2003 release of American Life, Madonna as usual has quickly moved on from the military theme of the album cover and American Life music video. The harsh black hair and camoflage gear has been replaced by her trademark blonde locks and hollywood glamour.
Madonna has once again successfully reivented herself with the successful GAP compaign, that kiss at the MTV awards, the stunning video for the second almost ignored single "Hollywood",the best selling childrens book and the new radio friendly single with Britney Spears.
The cover is decptive in the way that this is not an angry album, sure American Life as a track is uneven and the rap isquestionable but tracks like the upcoming single Nothing Fails, the Estee Lauder commercial anthem Love Profusion and Intervention are about love and happiness.
Much of the album deals with self-worth and experience and this is highlighted by the track "Xstatic Process". A simple multilayered ballad with not one electronic effect.
"Mother and Father" features a killer hook and a rap that works and is begging for a remix. Also included is the electronic Bond theme "Die Another Day".
Other standout tracks are "Nobody Knows Me" and the haunting "Easy Ride"
So forget the cover and the military theme and get the album. Even through all the up and down reviews and personal attacks from the media it has still shifted 6 million copies to date - 6 million people can't be wrong.
I question how many reviewers here actually own the album.
Don't worry about Madonna's future - she is not going anywhere - for 20 years she has been "over" - name one artist from 20 years ago that still makes quality music....

The most mature recording yet

An album that took me a few tries to get into -- until "Cruise Control" hit me in the face from out of nowhere. the rest of the songs quickly followed. Hornsby's musicianship, lyrics, and mature improvisation all mature on this album. He has fun with it! he plays around with time sigs and dynamics and grooves until every song has a heart of its own. A definite keeper, though Jerry Garcia fans might be a bit disappointed in that Jerry's solos tend to be on the short and controlled side.
