Great, but not excellent.

This album starts out with great direction, but loses it about halfway through. I still can't tell you the names of the later tracks, much less figure out which one we're listening to. Having said that, it's still great to have playing in the background. Also, the first half of the disc really is excellent. The tiny beginning of "Angel" exploding into a near anthemic sound is very very cool. "Risingson" is one of the best electronic songs out there, and may be worth the price of the album for some. All in all, I'd recommend this album for anyone interested in starting to listen to Massive Attack.

Title: Saving Private Ryan: Music From The Original Motion Picture Soundtrack
Label: Dreamworks
Artist: John Williams
Rating: 5/5

Best film of '98, best score of '98

So, I noticed something while watching "Saving Private Ryan" opening day. Rather, I noticed a lack of something: for large portions of the film's 170 minute running time, there is no music at all. John Williams has shown remarkable restraint with his SPR score, allowing the images onscreen to speak for themselves most of the time.
The music that is there is brilliant, however, most notably in "Hymn to the Fallen", which plays over the end credits, and is likely the best thing Williams has ever written.
Steven Spielberg has produced a masterpiece with this film. So has John Williams.

Great CD

I was a bit wary of H&O doing an all soul album, but I absolutely love Daryl Hall's vocals so I gave it a try. The songs on this album are awesome, Daryl does a great job with Love TKO...The arrangements are great and I think really do justice to the flavor of the original songs while adding that special H&O brand of rock and soul.

Title: The Hits 2

The Darker Side of His Royal Badness.

Even though "The Hits 2" is just one-third of the set "The Hits/The B-Sides," this single disc compilation has enough brilliant material to stand entirely on its own. It's a freaky ride through the darker side of Prince's music during the Warner Brothers years, and at least half of these singles have "masterpiece" written all over them. Groundbreaking tracks like the eyebrow-raising "Head," the flawless "Kiss," and "Little Red Corvette" (one of the great American rock singles) show that Prince was one of the most vital musicians of the 1980s. Not only was he prolific (he released one album every calendar year), but he's the only artist in the 1980s to release FOUR classic albums in one decade: "Dirty Mind," "1999," "Purple Rain," and "Sign O the Times." Madonna couldn't do it. Neither could Bruce Springsteen. Michael Jackson came close, but still no cigar. Even Prince's "lesser" singles like "Sexy M.F." and "Cream" had more to offer than much of Top 40 radio. Of course, diehard fans are strongly recommended to get his 3 disc set that has a slew of his b-sides, but first-time listeners can't go wrong with picking this one up.
