Take a chance on this incredible score!

I'm glad I did, as it definitely now resides in my top ten favorite Broadway scores. It's an extremely variable score, from wildly comic to powerfully beautiful, and that may have affected the show's run, but it works great on your CD player.
Don't be afraid to change the order of the songs either. I start off with 2,3, then 1, etc. In fact, the only song I didn't end up liking on the entire CD was "Many Young Men From Now".
When I read a review by someone, I'm always curious about other shows they've liked, or didn't like, to see how similar (or dissimilar!) our tastes are. Some scores I've enjoyed include: House of Flowers, Grass Harp, Saratoga, Camelot, Purlie, Dear World, Mata Hari, The Life, Avenue Q and Wicked.
Some I didn't like include Bajour, Subways Are For Sleeping, The Seussical, St. Louie Woman, Applause, Urinetown, Greenwillow, Big River, Sweet Charity and The Golden Apple.

Buyer beware

I am a great fan of Michael W. Smith's music. I own just about every CD he has released and also enjoy seeing him in concert. However, this CD is very different. When I purchased it, it was not advertised as an instrumental CD. That would have been a red flag for me. I would encourage people to listen to a sample or two before they buy it, because after listening to it once, I realized I made a mistake. Don't expect traditional Michael W. Smith and you won't be disappointed. If you do expect upbeat pop music and moving ballads, you (like me) will want your money back.

Title: MP4: Days Since a Lost Time Accident
Label: Sony
Artist: Michael Penn
Rating: 5/5

Making up for 'Lost Time'

The fact that this release was delayed since last July is a mystery. Penn has again crafted sweet melodies accompanied by strong, more hopeful lyrics. For those who think this is not the same Michael Penn, it is not. He is, indeed, saying lighten up and move forward.
MP4 was the next logical step in the process of his growth as a musician. While it may not haunt you years later as one review criticized, unfairly, it will inhabit your consciousness for the moment, and you will be humming long after the last note has sounded. It is one of the best gifts you can give yourself. Buy it.
